DESCRIPTION
The candidate who fills this position will join a high-performing team that provides clients with multi-disciplinary numerical modeling, and engineering solutions to coastal engineering and flood risk challenges. The Senior Coastal Engineer will be integral to lead a multi-disciplinary modeling and data solutions team, developing innovative initiatives and products in flood risk, mentoring junior staff, and supporting our growing Emergency Management and Response office.
The candidate who fills this position will be called upon to:
- Provide technical leadership to various national coastal engineering projects involving flood risk, numerical modeling, design, and mapping.
- Provide subject matter expertise to FEMA coastal flood risk studies.
- Provide team leadership, mentoring and collaborate on developing a sustainable growth strategy.
- Support proposals targeting various coastal engineering opportunities in the region.
- Collaborate on building innovative tools and products to deliver project excellence and help with marketing.
- Collaborating with other members of the team across Michael Baker offices across the country on project execution.
- Working with open-source products to develop numerical tools and solutions.
- Writing reports and memorandums for a variety of different audiences.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of bachelors degree in coastal engineering or related field.
- Postgraduate in Coastal Engineering or related field is preferred.
- 8+ years of experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE)
- Excellent computational hydrodynamic and wave modeling skills with experience in software such as ADCIRC, Delft3D, SWAN, WHAFIS, ArcGIS, XBeach
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with business development.
- Knowledge of FEMAs National Flood Insurance Program and experience implementing FEMAs coastal flood hazard analysis and mapping methodologies.
- Strong time management with ability to multitask and prioritize competing project obligations.
- Experienced in Matlab, Python, and Fortran programming, and working with open-source software.
- Demonstrated history of technical leadership, mentoring, and independent success.
COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $107,921 to $148,409. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
