Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Cost Development Engineer. This position will be responsible for building comprehensive cost estimations of customer products in support of the sales engineering team. This position will collaborate with launch engineers, functional engineers, and the purchasing team to develop competitive costs for quotes.

We are looking for individuals that are able to perform the following:

  • Improve the processes and tools used to develop cost estimates to increase the speed and accuracy of those estimates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build comprehensive cost estimates of our clients production of customer products.
  • Ensure those estimates are completed efficiently, timely, and accurately. Estimating includes all aspects of the costs to build including material, internal processes, outside processes, and any other special items that will be required to meet customer specifications.
  • Provide sufficient documentation of assumptions behind the estimates.
  • Ensure that all documentation for estimates is recorded in the correct locations.
  • Review the parts and estimates for cost savings opportunities. Make recommendations to the sales engineering team for Design for Manufacturability (DFM) opportunities.
  • Explore and recommend innovative solutions to reduce manufacturing costs.
  • Lead efforts to collaborate with Launch Engineering and Functional Engineering to estimate costs on tooling and specific key processes that require development work because they are not a current capability of our client.
  • Assist in developing cost benefit analysis for tooling and new equipment required for new programs.
  • Effectively work with purchasing to obtain costs from outside suppliers for outside services when necessary.
  • Ensure accurate specifications and documentation are given to the purchasing team to ensure accurate quoting from suppliers.
  • Collaborate with purchasing to look for opportunities to reduce costs from the supply base.
  • Lead projects to develop new tools and methods for developing better estimates and improved reporting of estimates.
  • Lead efforts in any other special projects that may be assigned by the Development Engineering Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

Qualifications:

  • 7-10 years related experience or training Experience in stamping and sheet metal fabrication preferred.
    2-3 yrs experience in metal fabrication cost development preferred.
  • Bachelors degree (B.S.) in engineering
    or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Computer Skills:
    • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Solidworks, and an estimating software. An understanding of SQL database is preferred.
    • To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the ability to read blueprints, knowledge of business practices/protocols, and be able to maintain confidential information.
    • Demonstration of previous work that shows the ability to perform to our client's Core Values is critical for success.
  • Language Skills:
    • High Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Mathematical Skills:
    • High Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
    • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    • High Skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Physical Demands:

    • While performing the duties of this job the Associate is regularly required to walk, sit, use of computer keyboard, maneuver through the office and factory, use a 10-key calculator, and communicate with customer and management in person, by email or via telephone, and the Associate is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • PPE:
    • Must wear safety glasses with side shields and steel toe/composite shoes while on the production floor.
    • Gloves may be required if handling parts.

Hours:

  • Full Time - 40 hours per week
  • Monday - Friday
