Job Description



The School of Community Medicine, Student Services Office is hiring a grant-funded Senior Counselor. This position will fulfill the requirements of the HRSA grant to develop and implement a mentoring program with retention services. These services will be directed to students from TRU-OK to enhance the student’s sense of belonging, identify educational needs, and engage in early mitigation of risk factors to promotion.



Responsibilities:




  • Provide confidential counseling services for medical and PA students, resident physicians and their family members.

  • Develop the STUDENT SUCCESS program in conjunction with the Student Services staff and the associate deans.

  • Teach medical and PA students and resident physicians educational topics related to student success and wellness.

  • Serve on SCM committees, as assigned.

  • Evaluates programs and assesses quality of services, provides data for program development, supports educational and research goals, and complies with regulatory standards.

  • Develops treatment plans, advocates for patients in team meetings, acts as liaison to community agencies on treatment plan, and coordinates the provisions of services. Counsels family members or caregivers on the recommended treatment plan and how to deal with the patient’s situation.

  • • Participate in educational scholarship.

  • • Attend SCM White Coat and Commencement ceremonies.

  • Maintains patient record confidentiality.

  • Supervises other counselors and staff to include hiring, training, evaluating performance, and disciplinary actions.

  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.




Job Requirements

Education: Master’s Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Counseling, Human Relations or related field.





Experience: 60 months of professional Counseling experience.





Certifications/Licenses: Licensed Master of Social Work, Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Clinical Social Work or Licensed Psychologist.





Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:




  • Advanced knowledge of human behavior and individual differences in ability, personality, and interests.

  • Ability to tell when something is wrong or likely to go wrong.

  • Ability to assess and recommend treatment for the behavioral or other disorders.

  • Advanced knowledge of methods and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to listen and understand information.

  • Ability to communicate information to the patient, family members, and caregivers.



 



Preferences:




  • Experience with health professional students

  • Doctoral Degree (Ph.D., Ed.D, PsyD, etc.)
