The anticipated salary range for this role is between $250,000.00 and $250,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

Seeking an experienced trader to join the growing High Yield Corporate Bond trading desk. The position will report directly to the Head of High Yield Trading. Preferred location is Charlotte, NC but New York City applicants are welcome.

Responsibilities:

  • Market making in multiple sectors complimentary to the desks current areas of focus
  • High level of engagement with a broad array of High Yield clients both domestic and global. Enhance strong relationships with buyside counterparties with the goals of idea generation and liquidity enhancement
  • Contribution to desk revenue generation and client trading volume
  • Strong partnership with desk analysts
  • Prudent and effective risk management
  • Developing close working relationships with sales teams, including High Yield, Investment Grade, and Emerging Markets
  • Partnership with Investment Banking and Syndicate to provide timely and accurate information and proactive idea generation

Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of credit trading and market making technicals and logistics
  • Deep understanding of credit fundamentals and strong industry expertise
  • Proven ability to generate revenue with meaningful balance sheet while demonstrating effective risk management
  • Strong relationships with the buyside client base relevant to the High Yield market
  • Knowledge of CDS/CDX, equity trading, and leveraged loan markets preferred
  • Strong desire to be a part of building a franchise with longevity and relevance to the High Yield market
