THE ROLE:

Athletic Greens is looking for a skilled Senior Manager, Laboratory (QC) to ensure the Quality/Product Development/R&D laboratories are in operation mode to support development, production and the release of finished good products. Reporting to the Vice President, Quality Assurance, the Senior Manager, Laboratory (QC) will be responsible for staying current on publications released by USP, FDA and other pertinent regulating bodies to ensure the Quality Control Laboratories and associated activities throughout the facility are compliant and continuously improved upon.

This position requires in-depth knowledge of and experience in analytical laboratory testing using HPLC, TLC, GC, GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP/MS, FTIR, UV-Vis spectrophotometric, microbiological, and /or general analytical laboratory techniques. The ideal candidate is skilled and experienced in method validation and has demonstrated experience working with external testing laboratories and contract manufacturing partners. Additionally, we are looking for someone who demonstrates strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem solving skills, and who is a strong collaborator and leader in the quality control discipline.


WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Responsible for on-site management of the Quality Control laboratory in accordance with AG and cGMP requirements. Lead, organize and maintain all department and laboratory processes, procedures and administrative duties.
  • Responsible for the development and management of direct reports, QC Lab Technicians, and supervising the activities of QC Lab personnel; primarily supporting continuous improvement projects, ensuring accurate and timely completion of work product.
  • Ensure that all raw material, bulk, and finished goods are tested in accordance with all regulatory, AG organoleptic and sensory requirements, as applicable.
  • Develop and implement systems designed to support assay development, stability, raw material and finished product testing.
  • Ability to provide Product Development support and solutions for critical product innovations and benchtop trials; including but not limited to lab pilot, first production, and reference standards.
  • Prepare justification for new lab equipment. Prepare purchase orders and coordinate authorization and procurement. Arrange installation and qualification.
  • Facilitate the evaluation of new testing applications and instrumentation. Assist in the purchase and commission of analytical and microbiology instrumentation. Ensure there are efficient instruments for the workload of samples.
  • Overall responsibility to manage method validations/qualifications.
  • Provide guidance to resolve problems with instruments, test methods, lab chemicals, standards, and samples.
  • Responsible for investigating and processing Deviations, Out of Specifications (OOS), and Out of Trend (OOT), QC events. Identify and report non-conformances, deviations, and OOS events.
  • Overall responsible for stability programs and ensuring execution within required timelines. Continuous management, development and improvement of stability program.
  • Take lead responsibility with contract laboratories supporting outsourced testing, method development and assay validation activities.
  • Act as the liaison with external parties on matters relating to QC testing status, approvals, rejections, documentation status, and any other QC matters to support all internal departments and customers.
  • Ensure adequate communication of priorities exists between the QC lab and other departments and within the lab.


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Bachelors degree in Science related field required; Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry or related field. M.S. Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry or related fields is a plus.
  • 7+ years of Quality Control lab experience in the dietary supplement, food or pharmaceutical industry, in a cGMP environment is required.
  • Method validation experience required.
  • Experience working with external testing laboratories and contract manufacturing partners is highly desirable.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining departmental metrics is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organization skills; ability to develop and lead a high performing team.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain an organized system of accuracy for all product and packaging submissions and approvals.
  • Excellent oral and technical writing skills, with an ability to interface effectively and professionally at all levels.
  • Communicate clear work plans, coordinate staff schedules, training and standardize work hours among the staff.
  • Must be able to develop solutions for simple and complex problems, which require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity and innovation. Challenges are frequently unique and solutions may serve as precedent for future decisions, which affect the entire AG organization.
  • Must be available to work on-site Monday-Friday 8am-5pm MT.

Athletic Greens is dedicated to providing equitable and competitive compensation & benefits packages. For this particular role, the base salary range is $110,000 - $155,000 and will ultimately be decided at the offer stage, based on an individual candidates level of skills and experience aligned with the needs of this role. Base salary is only one component of total compensation for this position. We provide a competitive mix of base salary, performance bonus, and stock option allocation.
