Discovery Education is searching for a Senior Manager to join our Research vertical within the broader Research and Analytics team. The Senior Manager, Research will support the research and evaluation of Discovery Education products and services, partner feedback, and other programs using a variety of data sources and methodologies.

This role will manage a team of researchers and external contract workers who are responsible for planning and executing studies and preparing reports and other supporting materials. Primary duties of the Senior Manager will include planning, organizing, and managing the execution of quantitative and qualitative research, managing the teams tasks which include working with external vendors on evaluation projects, developing research protocols, analyzing data, writing evaluation reports, and presenting data to internal and external stakeholders. The individual will have to work collaboratively across business units, working closely with the stakeholders to gather requirements and to ensure the alignment to the strategic goals for research and ultimately, the reliability and validity of measurements to support product growth, development and efficacy.

This role is a remote position.

What You Will Do

  • Work collaboratively with the VP of Research and Analytics and Directors on the team to set the strategic vision for the research practice at Discovery Education.
  • Manage research projects and collaborate with cross-functional departments to develop and implement research to support business goals.
  • Develop research questions and measurement plans to quantify the impact of programs and identify areas of improvement in methodology to meet project goals.
  • Utilize a wide range of quantitative and qualitative measurement techniques including surveys, interviews, literature reviews, focus groups, and in-product data tracking.
  • Manage a team of Program Evaluation and UXR researchers who set up studies, create technical reports and work with research vendors to support team deliverables.
  • Produce insightful research reports to support program needs and internal decision making.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phase, and ability to justify research decisions.
  • Develop scopes of work to frame complex research problems, as well as evaluate agencies and vendors to support projects.
  • Collaborate with UX/UI and Design, Marketing, and Product Management teams to utilize research for strategic development, in addition to establishing relationships with other partners throughout DE.
  • Act as a change agent, sparking fresh ideas that elevate the research practice and are infused within our culture and products.
  • Mentor other researchers and lead by example in delivering excellent individual work.
  • Design and lead collaborative workshops to facilitate various stages of client-facing projects.
  • Evangelize and promote research and insights throughout the organization.
  • Ensure deliverables meet quality standards and business requirements.
  • Present research to internal stakeholders and external partner teams.

Requirements

  • Masters or PhD in education, research, human computer interaction, psychology or a related field.
  • 7+ years conducting research in mid to large businesses. Experience working in the Education field is preferred.
  • Experience working with external research vendors to craft scopes of work, navigate internal team discussions, revising protocols and supporting the execution of the research deliverables.
  • Experience taking transactional business data, analyzing that data to answer a core research question and using analytics tools and systems to present the findings and insights.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new systems quickly and communicate research insights across teams and rolled up to senior executives.
  • Must have strong listening, analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills collaboration across multiple business and technology functions, relationship building, and consensus building are a must.
  • Must be able to work on and prioritize multiple tasks while working well under pressure.
  • Must be a self-starter and work productively with minimal direction.
  • Must learn quickly and produce under pressure and tight deadlines.
