Job Duties:

The Materials and Process Engineer will assist the M&P team with the material selection and process characterization required for the development of an entire line of FAA TSO certified polymer matrix composite floats. This position provides a unique opportunity to be an integral member of a team dedicated to the creation of a new manufacturing initiative.

  1. Materials selection and characterization with a focus on polymer matrix composites and related materials
  2. Process development, refinement, and troubleshooting
  3. Material and process specification development, authoring, and maintenance
  4. Design allowables calculation and substantiation
  5. Assist in the development of the material test laboratory, including equipment selection, process and procedure definition, and test method creation
  6. Author and oversee test plans, including assisting with testing as required
  7. Work with the manufacturing team to produce prototype and production composite parts and assemblies in accordance with approved specifications

Requirements

Experience and Skills

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline, such as materials, science, or engineering.
  • Experience with polymer matrix composite material and process development. New product development experience, with new material system implementation, a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and written communication skills
  • Hands-on experience with composite part and bonded assembly fabrication
  • Experience with multiple composite fabrication techniques (e.g. prepreg, VARTM, wet layup)
  • FAA Structures DER a plus
  • Previous experience with FAA certified composite structures a plus
