Vector Atomic is hiring mixed signal engineers to design circuit boards for ultraprecise quantum devices. This work has applications for autonomous/GPS-free navigation, high-bandwidth satellite communications, and geophysical exploration. This hands-on role requires strong electronic design skills emphasizing mixed-signal and low-power analog circuits. We are seeking strong individual contributors that take ownership of their work while supporting overall team goals. Our rapidly growing team of 40+ brings an innovative but practical approach to developing quantum devices. If you'd like to work on transformational technologies in a dynamic, team-oriented environment, come join our team!

What You'll Do

  • Work with a cross-functional team of physicists, electronics engineers, and firmware programmers to create next-generation quantum instruments.
  • Design custom PCBs that combine precision analog, mixed-signal, and digital circuits.
  • Perform/oversee all stages in the PCB design process including schematic capture, placement, routing, fabrication, and initial board bring-up.
  • This position requires an understanding of electronic noise sources, measurement techniques, and mitigation strategies. We dont expect deep expertise in this area, but new hires will need to quickly come up to speed with these subjects to solve design challenges.
  • Select parts and work with our purchasing department to procure, fabricate, and assemble PCBAs.
  • Assist with board bring-up and debugging your designs.
  • Collaborate with software engineers and provide technical guidance as they program and interact with your designs.
  • Create board documentation to assist integration by firmware developers and end users.
  • Contribute to the development process for continuous improvement by writing task tickets (Jira).

What We're Looking For

  • BSEE/MSEE Degree with substantial work in PCB board design. We will consider other technical backgrounds for candidates with extensive experience designing mixed-signal PCBs.
  • US citizenship or Permanent Residency (Green Card) required by US export control laws.
  • Must be comfortable working in a laboratory environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and collaborators, both written and verbal.

Requirements

Required expertise:

  • Training/expertise designing analog and mixed-signal electronic circuits.
  • Training/expertise creating custom PCBs using Altium.
  • Simulation of circuits using Spice.
  • High-speed PCB design and layout techniques such as microstrip, controlled impedance, length matching, grounding, decoupling, shielding.

Nice-to-have expertise:

  • Background using advanced Altium design methods such a xSignals, custom design rules, placement regions, hierarchical designs, templates, etc.
  • Design experience with RF circuits.
  • Low-power design techniques and power supply design.
  • Laboratory test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators and voltmeters.
  • Designing boards with FPGAs and embedded processors.

Benefits

At Vector Atomic we value teamwork, open and honest discourse, and work-life balance. We are an employee-owned company with competitive compensation and benefits including:

  • Platinum-level family health coverage (medical, dental, vision)
  • Health & Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Employer 401(k) contributions
  • 20 days Paid time off and 10 paid holidays

Pay Range
We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, performance bonus, benefits, and equity. The pay range for this position is $125,000 to $175,000 including annual bonus. It's atypical to be hired at the top end of this range for the role, as actual pay is based on several factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience level.
