Vector Atomic is building quantum devices for applications including GPS-free navigation and timing, geophysical exploration, and telecommunications. We are focused on delivering near-term products that take advantage of the exquisite properties of quantum systems. Our devices are designed with the form, fit, function, and cost for the real world. Our rapidly growing team of 40 brings an innovative but practical approach to developing quantum devices. If you'd like to work on transformational technologies in a dynamic, team-oriented environment, come join our team!

What You'll Do

  • Work with a cross-functional team of physicists, electronics engineers, and optical designers on complex instrument designs. Able to take a lead position that includes defining requirements and develop new circuits to meet project goals.
  • Ownership of custom PCBs designs with RF circuits and support electronics. Able to directly implement schematics and layout tasks using modern PCB design tools.
  • Work with a team of designers to create complex multidomain PCBs which require integration of work from multiple designer engineers.
  • Identify parts to meet design requirements including alternatives to address parts shortages.
  • Assist with board bring-up and integration; develop test scripts and documentation to assist with validation.

Requirements

What We're Looking For

  • BSEE/MSEE/PhD EE or related degree with 6+ years of related work experience.
  • US citizenship or Permanent Residency (Green Card) required by US export control laws.
  • Must be comfortable working in a laboratory environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and collaborators, both written and verbal.

Required expertise:

  • Solid understanding of RF circuit design components including mixers, amplifiers, attenuators, PLL, isolators, filters, couplers, transformers, baluns, etc.
  • Able to interpret, measure and define RF metrics such as S-parameters, VSWR, Noise Figure, THD, 3rd order intercept and 1 dB compression.
  • A history designing PCBs with RF and microwave circuits, especially PLLs. Must be able to design support electronics for RF circuits (for example POL power and control signaling).
  • Able to produce schematics using CAD tools and oversee the layout.
  • Strong knowledge of defining and using transmission lines, matching circuitry and waveguide. This background must include PCB transmission line implementations such as stripline, coplanar waveguide and microstrip.
  • Experience using RF and electronic test equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, vector signal analyzers, vector signal generators, power supplies, oscilloscopes, function generators, etc.
  • Must have a strong understanding of circuit noise mechanisms and noise metrology. This expertise must extend to phase noise sources on CW signals. Must be to able define test systems to accurately measure noise and CW phase noise.

Nice-to-have expertise:

  • Working knowledge of RFIC technologies.
  • Expertise designing RF circuits that minimize power consumption.
  • Experience with designing and working with high-speed mixed signal devices such as ADCs, DACs and DDSs.
  • A background working with precision timing designs and applications. Experience designing performance (low-phase noise) signal generation systems would be a major plus.

Benefits

At Vector Atomic we value teamwork, open and honest discourse, and work-life balance. We are an employee-owned company with competitive compensation and benefits including:

  • Platinum-level family health coverage (medical, dental, vision)
  • Health & Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Employer 401(k) contributions
  • 20 days Paid time off and 10 paid holidays
  • Paid parental leave
  • Stock ownership plan
  • Fully stocked kitchen

Pay Range
