Job Title: Sr. Network Architect/RF Engineer

Location: Dallas, TX 75202

Duration: 6+ Months with the possibility of extension

Pay Rate: $80.00/hr.

Schedule: Shift 1; M-F



Summary:



The Network/Telecom Architect will be responsible for managing and participating in the processes for the design and implementation of the Oncor IT Networks and Communications infrastructure (including LAN/WAN, Fiber, Microwave, 896 Radio systems, AMS, voice, data). The Network/Telecom Architect is the senior technical expert on multiple telecommunication protocols and is responsible for managing, monitoring and maintaining the connectivity of network systems to ensure compliance with Oncor's voice and data communications requirements. Candidates will be accountable for effectively managing projects and delivering objectives and engineering technical solutions that meet the needs of the client while following industry standards and internally instituting these standards within IT. Candidates will conduct trend analysis and capacity analysis to anticipate changes in the business environment and take appropriate action. Experienced candidates are expected to train new candidates and may occasionally guide the work of Associate Network Engineers or Technicians assigned to specific projects. Incumbents are expected to keep abreast of changing telecommunications regulations and technologies. Technical certifications may be required depending on the specific role.



 



Key Roles & Responsibilities Directly or through others, the incumbent:




  •  Perform radio frequency (RF) design, testing, and deployment activities associated to mainly Advanced Metering System (AMS) but also Distribution Automation (DA) and Telecom Refresh (TRP) projects

  •  Utilize and enhance tools like EDX, Pathloss, and Google Earth in order to perform RF design activities

  •  Participate in and lead testing and troubleshooting activities for both new and existing telecommunications solutions including microwave, Land Mobile Radio, MAS (over 900MHz and

  •  700MHz frequencies), cellular, SpeedNet, AMS repeaters and collectors, etc.

  •  Work with coordinators and the FCC on new communication licensing, renewals, build-out notifications, etc.

  •  Work with network and communications vendors and service providers to ensure necessary operation of data and voice communication networks

  •  Develop new and update design, system as-built, and procedure documentation for all network and telecommunications infrastructure, especially as the documentation relates to DA, AMS, and TRP projects

  •  Work with and enhance network management tools used for monitoring the performance of and updating communications equipment

  •  Assist with operational issues as they arise and monitor network performance using various reports and other documentation provided by communications vendors and service providers to ensure efficient and reliable operation of data and voice communication networks

  •  Assist with various project management activities including participation in status reporting, vendor coordination, procurement, etc.

  •  Coordinate with the AMS and DA teams as well as field resources / technicians on troubleshooting, scheduling, testing, etc. activities





Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements:




  •  Education - Professional Engineer

  •  Experience - 8+ plus years of experience in IT networks and communications infrastructure

  • Skills - Strong experience in networks and communications, RF design and engineering, NER/CIP compliance, ability to build strong relationships with vendor and service provider counterparts, experience in an outsourced IT and/or consulting environment, strong written and verbal communication skills

  •  Network architecture diagrams

  •  EDX, Google Earth, Pathloss, etc. system outputs

  •  Test plans and results

  •  Schedules and status reports

  •  Oncor satisfaction with the Network and Telecom activities

  •  Proven track record of success and a collaborative and participative style.

  •  Demonstrates a track record of participating in activities through the system development lifecycle to include concept development, requirement analysis and definition, system design and integration.
