Pensions Actuarial Consultant - Nationwide (Hybrid)



Mercer is seeking a talented and ambitious DB Actuarial Consultant to join our team in the UK. As a consultant, you will have the opportunity to work with clients on both Scheme Actuary and Corporate appointments in the mid-market segment. This role offers the flexibility to be based in any of our UK offices or work remotely.

Joining our multi-disciplinary team, you will provide clients with cutting-edge actuarial advice. This role is ideal for a qualified actuary with experience working with trustees and/or corporates on DB pensions within an actuarial consultancy role. As a Pension Actuarial Consultant, you will collaborate with a team to develop and deliver customised advice and solutions to clients, with a primary focus on DB pension schemes. We will count on you to:


In this role, you will be responsible for a significant number of Scheme Actuary and Corporate appointments in the mid-market segment

You will lead on delivering actuarial advice at client meetings and presentations

Provide an informed view on current topics based on client circumstances, and tailoring advice as appropriate

Utilise strong technical actuarial skills used to consult with clients, and the ability to communicate with clients in a clear and succinct manner

Act as final technical reviewer for actuarial calculations and, where appropriate, provide peer review support

Agree the strategy, direction and resourcing for client work

You will support Client Relationship Managers (CRM) in all aspects of service delivery, including governance, financial management and meetings

Proactively identifying and developing client needs and solutions, you will also promote other Mercer and MMC services to clients in collaboration with CRMs and other specialist consultants


What you need to have:


This role would suit a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries with actuary with a strong understanding of and experience with UK defined benefit pension schemes

Experience of developing your skills towards attainment of, or have obtained, a Scheme Actuary certificate

To succeed in this role, you should have an awareness of current pension issues and their impact on clients, as well as the ability to tailor your response to specific circumstances

Excellent communication skills, strong analytical and numerical abilities, and critical thinking skills are essential

You should have the ability to manage projects with minimal supervision

We value individuals who are adaptable in a changing environment and have a willingness to learn new skills

Building relationships with colleagues and clients is crucial, and excellent planning and organisational abilities are necessary to prioritise and complete work
