UM Campus Dining invites you to join our team! As a temporary employee, well match your skills and talents to the best job for you, including food preparation, cooking, guest services, cashiering, cleaning, ware-washing, office work, employee supervision, and more. You may find yourself baking cookies in the on-campus bakery, making lattes in one of our many coffee shops, or helping customers in a convenience store, dining center, or concessions stand during the big game!
UM Campus Dining is the largest family on campus, with over 400 student and temporary employees, 72 full-time employees (and six ducks!). Youll be joining a community of friendly, enthusiastic teammates who provide the 12,000 students, faculty, and staff of the University of Montana with the quality food, hospitality, and fun they look forward to every day on campus. You must be able to do the following:
Move effectively through the foodservice operations
Lift heavy objects from the floor to counter height, which requires mobility and physical demands
Work standing up for long periods as needed in the operations, which requires mobility and physical demands
Occasionally work long hours, long weeks, or evenings and weekends
Taste and experience food and menu items to assess and assure high quality
Minimum Position Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
UM Campus Dining temporary employees filling entry-level positions are not required to have specific work experience, skills, or abilities. Certain positions may require specific skills or work experience.
Must enjoy people and possess a positive, can-do attitude
Ability to provide outstanding guest service to students, staff, faculty and guests of the university
Ability to learn foodservice positions
Ability to work closely with others and interact with a highly diverse population
Ability to work with college students as coworkers and guests
Ability to work and maintain composure in a fast-paced environment
Ability to pass food safety training class
Good written and verbal communication skills
Experience with or ability to learn computer skills, such as accurate data entry, Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel, and food management systems like CBORD
For cashiers, servers, and concessions positions:
Ability to learn and use point-of-sale systems efficiently
Ability to learn and adhere to UM Dining cash-handling policies for the unit assigned
Ability to apply basic mathematical functions in situations such as counting back change, reconciling invoices, or converting recipes
Ideal Position Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
The ideal temporary employee will possess skills, knowledge, or abilities that may include:
Knowledge and experience working in a fast-paced foodservice operation
Experience working in a fast-paced college or university foodservice setting
Degree from a culinary institute or work experience cooking in a full-service restaurant
Professional cooking experience in a fast-casual restaurant, deli, or grill
Server experience at a full-service restaurant
Concessions experience including setup, service, cashiering, and cleanup for large events such as concerts and football games
Professional catering service, setup and cleanup experience
Experience in a professional office setting, including use of multi-line phones, copiers, and other office equipment
Experience as a cashier using a point-of-sale system
Professional ware-washing experience
Professional baking experience
Barista experience
Experience performing and entering inventory counts in a retail or foodservice operation
Knowledge of meal plans at University of Montana or other college or university
Experience supervising employees
Experience with foodservice equipment

Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Two years in a clinical environment with data processing/specimen handling experience. A.S degree preferred or an equivalent demonstration of education and experience. Graduate of heath/ medical assistant or similar training program from an accredited institution where general laboratory technique is taught. Must meet CLIA 88 personnel requirements for moderate complexity testing.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions in English. Ability to write simple correspondence in English. Ability to effectively present information to one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Must have the ability to perform all duties with accuracy and attention to detail
Computer Skills:
Ability to use Laboratory Information System in addition to various other software programs.
