This position is a System Administrator role within the Voice Communications Engineering Work Group. This position researches, designs, develops, tests, and oversees the installation of electrical communication cabling systems. Design and implement structured cabling systems for buildings. Define cabling types, distances, connectors, cable system architectures, cable termination standards, cable installation requirements, and methods of testing installed cable. Design and install cabling systems that support a wide variety of existing and future services. Define pathways and spaces, administration standards, grounding and bonding and outside plant cabling. Apply principles of transmission, structured cabling systems, codes, standards and regulations, electrical protection, fire stopping and cable system development.

This is a represented staff position with the IBEW Union. This position will require <10% travel.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Frequent use and application of communication engineering standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
  • Provides solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Monitor and maintain an enterprise services environment consisting of Windows servers, Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers, and network appliances.
  • Provide monitoring and updating current and new systems, supporting critical system patches, and responding to incidents.
  • Provide system and application diagnoses to remediate issues while engaging other teams as needed
  • Perform system administration tasks - installing, maintaining, monitoring, recovering, rebuilding, upgrading, patching

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of Engineering principles and technologies.
  • Basic working knowledge of Windows Server OS or Linux OS fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of security policies and general vulnerabilities management.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to pass a NASA background investigation.
  • Must be able to pass an initial and random drug testing.
  • Normally works in an environmentally controlled setting.
  • Occasionally works at customer sites to include outdoors.
  • Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Florida Drivers License.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an engineering program and two (2) years of Engineering Experience OR Masters Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an engineering program

  • ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Desired Qualifications (not required, but a huge plus):

  • Experience with scripting or automation tools.
  • Experience with VMWare - ESX/ESXi, vCenter, vSphere.
  • Experience with AD, SCCM, SQL, MySQL, SELinux, DNS.
  • Knowledge of security policies such as DISA STIGS and general vulnerabilities management.
  • Certifications with major system vendors such as Microsoft, Red Hat, VMware, Cisco, Juniper, or Aruba.

Physical Requirements

  • Normally works in an environmentally controlled setting.
  • Occasionally works at customer sites to include outdoors.
  • Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
