The Systems Engineering Director, Project Engineering will report to the Chief Technology Officer of the Flexible Generation Business Unit (FGBU) North America. This position will be responsible for the technical roadmap, leadership and supervision of a multidisciplinary engineering group. The Director is responsible for engineering labor estimates, creation of and maintenance of technical specifications, support communication network architectures, NERC compliance, and management of owner engineers' responsibilities in support of FGBU projects. Further, the Director is also responsible for leading the technical development, implementation, and engineering execution of multiple energy storage projects projects within FGBU, and is responsible for both the management and development of the overall Systems Engineering Team. The Systems Engineering Director will work closely with other groups to ensure successful constructability and operation of the systems for high availability.

This position sits in Houston, TX and will report to the Chief Technology Officer for Flexible Generation.

What Youll Do

  • Manage all stages of project design and engineering, including conceptual and advanced system design, observing regulatory codes, customer requirements, balance of plant system, site visits, compliance with permitting requirements and general technical support during construction phase.
  • In collaboration with other team members, contribute to the completeness of designs and oversight of all third-party engineering (owners engineer, EPC contractor) to support delivery of energy storage projects
  • Lead the technical tasks in preparation of proposals, projects, and the review of potential suppliers as requested
  • Report on the planning and technical design of portfolio assets in planning, and present it to the Chief Operating Officer
  • Work in a team to develop and improve design standards and equipment specifications for energy storage projects.
  • Work closely with the team to define company processes and metrics, and plan and allocate resources to ensure strategic alignment and needed technical trainings
  • Build a quality culture of continuous improvement that enhances company efficiency and engineering quality
  • Drive the ENGIE One Safety culture, embracing both a Responsibility to act and Lead by Example approach
  • Ensure that ENGIE One Safety requirements are implemented during the design (process safety) of facilities, ensuring all projects comply with the standards
  • Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned

What You Bring

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or another related engineering discipline, with a working knowledge of engineering design principles across multiple engineering disciplines
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of engineering experience in conventional power generation, Renewables or Energy Storage industry
  • A minimum of five (5) years of management experience leading a team
  • Extensive technical experiences on energy storage projects
  • Knowledge of BESS design and optimization
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code and various Standard Industry Codes
  • Knowledge of electric grid transmission and distribution infrastructure preferred
  • Professional Engineering licensure in Texas or California preferred
  • Direct involvement in the commissioning phase of complex energy/electrical projects

  • Eligible for a hybrid schedule consisting of in-office and work-from-home opportunities

  • Salary Range: $146,300 $228,459 USD, annually
  • Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors
  • In addition to salary, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan
