Job Title: Talent Director

Job Summary:

Responsible for supporting a high-performance workforce of staff and volunteers. In alignment with the Foundations strategic objectives, responsible for driving our people strategy through consistent and effective recruitment and hiring practices, advancement and development of our people, and strong engagement of our team.

Requirements

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develops staffing strategies and programs to identify, recruit, engage, develop and retain talent
  • Fosters and supports the overall culture of Make-A-Wish Illinois
  • Ensures the Foundation is inclusive of individuals of diverse backgrounds and supports a sense of belonging to our Make-A-Wish community
  • Leads volunteer lifecycle management to include recruitment, retention, engagement, event staffing and recognition.
  • Supports talent management to prepare for and enable future growth
  • Directs the work and performance of the Talent Team
  • Manages compensation and benefits program for staff
  • Maintains and develops recognition programs that continually motivate staff and volunteers to operate as a high-performing team
  • Maintains and develops the performance management process, including performance evaluations, 360 feedback, performance improvement plans, and terminations
  • Ensures legal and regulatory compliance for all employment related areas
  • Enhances training programs and tools for our full workforce, leveraging content from Make-A-Wish America wherever possible
  • Utilizes our human resource systems to create and review necessary reports for critical analyses of our culture and the talent resources of our Foundation
  • Oversees hybrid office management operations for the Chicago office, plus one field office in Peoria
  • Manages the Talent team budget
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of human resources practices and systems, including full employee life-cycle management; volunteer management a plus
  • Strategic-minded
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Leadership skills, including ability to assess talent, analyze information and make decisions
  • Highly detail oriented
  • Familiarity with HR management software, including payroll and applicant tracking systems
  • Advanced skill level with Microsoft 365 including Excel and Power Point

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • 7 or more years work experience, preferably with prior experience working in a nonprofit setting
  • SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification highly preferred
  • Bachelors degree
