AOA Xinetics (AOX), a wholly owned Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Payload and Ground Systems Division Business Unit, is a leading supplier of complex electro-optic and photonic systems and subsystems that control and manipulate light waves for a variety of applications. We are seeking a dynamic Technical Editor and Writer for our Special Programs Business Area located in East Hartford, CT.

This position may be filled as either an Associate Technical Editor and Writer (level 1) or as a Technical Editor and Writer (level 2)

Overview
Reporting to the IDIQ Manager, the Technical Editor and Writer will be responsible for document generation including customer reports and correspondence, proposal management/technical volumes, operational installation procedures, hardware fly sheets, technical papers and presentations, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and Program Plans. Documents will primarily be in standard print formats; however, some documents are expected to transition to multimedia and web based formats. The selected candidate will be responsible for interfacing with individual teams and should demonstrate very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to gain cooperation and work effectively with others. The candidate must be able to understand management direction to generate deliverables in a time-sensitive environment and orchestrate people, resources, and tasks dealing with advanced subject matter.

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Generate custom reports and documents including monthly status reports, monthly presentations, technical documents, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and industry white papers
  • Write procedures and user manuals for in house and field operations
  • Provide guidance and review of presentations and documents for program personnel to improve the overall capabilities of the team
  • Acquire subject knowledge by interviewing product developers and subject matter experts, observing the performance of production methods, and individual research
Basic Qualifications for Level 1:
  • Bachelor's degree and experience in Technical Writing, or 5 years experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree
  • Demonstrated competency in desktop and publishing applications, with proficiency in document, image, and video editing software
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to multi-task and meet demanding deadlines with focus on attention to detail and accuracy
  • Able to assimilate information from multiple sources and create single point documentation
  • U.S. Citizenship is a bona fide requirement for employment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance
Basic Qualifications for level 2:
  • Bachelor's degree plus three years' experience in writing and presentation generation; or Master's degree and a year of related experience
  • Demonstrated competency in desktop and publishing applications, with proficiency in document, image, and video editing software
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to multi-task and meet demanding deadlines with focus on attention to detail and accuracy
  • Able to assimilate information from multiple sources and create single point documentation
  • U.S. Citizenship is a bona fide requirement for employment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to produce web based documents and procedures
  • Experience working in an optics environment or other technical/scientific area
  • Active Top Secret Clearance
Working Environment & Physical Demands:
  • This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
  • Due to the sensitive nature of the document support and the required hands on interactions, this position requires the majority of the work to be done on site. Only a small amount, up to 10% if coordinated, of work from home will be accommodated.
  • Some domestic travel may be required up to 10%

Salary Range: $52,700 USD - $79,100 USD
Salary Range 2: $63,800 USD - $95,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
