GA-CCRi maintains and deploys production systems for users across the Intelligence Community, Department of Defense, and commercial industry. We build and develop best-in-class all domain and globally focused situational awareness capabilities, including THRESHER and DRAGONSPELL, that process petabytes of data from numerous streaming data sources in near real time. Our systems apply state-of-the-art algorithms and machine learning techniques to extract features and fuse data from multiple phenomenologies to form a rich live view of objects in the sky, on the sea, and on the ground. These analytics are designed to determine not just where something is, but what it is, where it's been and what it's doing. All of this "data to knowledge" is made available to end users in our own browser-based application for visualization, analysis, and understanding. We always want to do more, and that's where you come in!

CCRi is looking for a Technical Operations Lead to lead multiple, operationally focused teams. We currently have three such teams, and each Mission Operations Engineering (i.e MOE) team is composed of Software, DevOps, and System Administrative personnel. Their job is to ensure the high availability and performance of our products for our customers. This position is more technical leader than a manager, but some management responsibilities are likely required. Importantly, this is a high-impact role with a fast-growing company. Youll work closely with the Chief Engineer to shape this role and provide input into the long-term vision of how be best to operationally support our product and customers.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead technical teams
    • Were looking for a technical leader who can work across their technical teams and get things done. This might be troubleshooting a particularly difficult issue, providing technical guidance, or helping scope a new initiative. Youll also be looking across your teams applying best practices, lessons learned, and efficiencies where needed.
  • Understand our products and customers
    • Our operational products are very important to our customers and their missions. Youre overall responsibility is ensuring these systems are available and performant. However, youll have teams of skilled engineers to evaluate and troubleshoot as issues arise.
  • Understand our priorities
    • Priorities are always shifting based on the needs of our customers and whats happening in the world. Youll be responsible for understanding and scoping those priorities while keeping your teams focused on achieving those objectives.
  • Work closely with leadership
    • Youll report to the Chief Engineer and work closely with the Operations Manager to help shape short-term goals as well as the long-term vision of technical operations. This is a high-impact role with a direct impact to our customers and users.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee all phases of software engineering project(s) including planning, and managing technical performance to ensure quality, business, and financial objectives are attained.
  • Develop and implement technical, schedule, quality, business, and financial objectives for the software engineering unit(s) and may also participates in the development of Group/Company objectives.
  • Oversee the development of software design concepts, criteria, and engineering efforts for product research, development, testing, and integration.
  • Participate in and influence the preparation of proposals and the development of new business opportunities and expansion of existing business opportunities.
  • Conduct business and technical briefings for senior and top management and for external representatives.
  • Lead progress review sessions to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance.
  • Identify software engineering issues and provide leadership in developing solutions such as re-allocation of resources or modifying contract specifications.
  • Influence decisions of senior leaders both within and outside the company on matters of high significance.
  • May represent the Unit/Group/Company in relations with customers, and business and non- business communities and act as the primary spokesperson for the science unit(s).
  • Consults with executive management to develop and implement strategic business plans including the development of current, annual and long- term technical, schedule, quality, business and financial objectives for the unit(s).
  • Oversee the development of and ensure the security of the unit's proprietary technology.
  • Ensure technical leadership and excellence is maintained by overseeing the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of the required management, professional, and technical talent.
  • Direct the development of new business opportunities and expansion of existing business opportunities.
  • Participate with Group management in pursuing business partnerships, alliances, and joint ventures that enhance the capabilities of the Group/Company.
  • Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Responsible for ensuring all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations are observed wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Responsible for ensuring work is accomplished in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelors, masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as thirteen or more years of software engineering experience with at least seven of those years in management. Equivalent experience may be substituted in lieu of education.

Must demonstrate:

  • an in-depth technical expertise in software development including applicable engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practices;
  • excellent project management and leadership skills that include organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones; and,
  • the ability to resolve unusually complex management and technical problems.
  • Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
  • Customer focused, must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment, and able to work extended hours and travel as required.

Desired Qualifications and Experience

An ideal candidate will have additional specific experience with many of the following:

  • Containers and container orchestration (docker, kubernetes, helm, istio, rancher)
  • CI/CD, GitOps
  • Provisioning (CloudFormation, Terraform) and configuration management (Puppet) tools
  • Security & networking - cloud security, IAM, ABAC, SSO, Okta, Keycloak, A&A
  • Scripting / coding with Python, Java/Scala, Bash
  • Databases (Postgres, MySQL)
  • Support or operations engineering roles
