We are looking for an ambitious technical writer to join our growing team. You will own and improve TileDB's explanatory documentation, and work closely with our engineering and applications teams to plan and curate API documentation and technical blog posts. A combination of technical background, excellent communication skills, and strong attention to detail is necessary.

Location

Our headquarters are in Cambridge, MA, USA and we have a subsidiary in Athens, Greece. However, you will have the flexibility to work remotely as long as your legal residence is in the USA or Greece, but working hours must overlap with GMT-4/US EST. US candidates must be US citizens, whereas Greek candidates must be Greek or EU citizens.

The Team

We are building TileDB Cloud, a highly disruptive and powerful universal data management platform. We handle everything that allows users and their organizations to unify all types of data, automate distributed analysis at planet scale, and securely share data and code across multiple programming languages and data science tools. TileDB Cloud operates as either a pay-as-you-go SaaS platform((link removed)) or as an on-prem deployment under the customer's full control.

As a Technical Writer for TileDB, you will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of database experts in the USA, Greece, and across Europe and the U.K. Your primary responsibilities will include developing and expanding TileDBs documentation, including documenting SQL features, creating how-to guides for our client APIs, and developing data science pipeline templates using TileDB. In addition, it will also be expected that you write high-visibility blog posts that showcase TileDB being used in innovative ways.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of industry experience.
  • Experience with data science pipelines in Python.
  • Excellent writing skills for creating tutorials and how-to guides
  • Working knowledge of code versioning tools, in particular git and Github.
  • Native-level of communication skills in English

Bonus points

  • Academic background in Computer Science, and/or prior software engineering, research, or technical writing work related to databases.
  • Experience with (or strong opinions about) the Ditaxis framework.
  • Experience with at least two of the following languages: R, Julia, TypeScript, Matlab, Java, or Javascript.
  • Experience with SQL and database APIs.
  • Experience in giving technical presentations.

Our Interview Process (~1 week)

  • 45 min call covering screening questions, a resume walkthrough, and time set aside for questions about the role and team
  • ~1 hour technical assessment using CoderByte, containing several TileDB specific coding exercises and a writing prompt.
    • Note: coding exercise skipped if substantial open source contributions or example work can be provided.
  • 45 min call with the team's Engineering Manager
  • 45 min call with our CTO/CEO
  • Offer

Benefits may vary slightly depending on employees location due to federal, state or local laws but in most cases we exceed these minimal mandated requirements.

  • Competitive salary and stock options
  • 100% medical and dental insurance coverage (for you and your dependents!)
  • Paid parental leave
  • Paid time off (vacation, sick & public holidays)
  • Flexible time off & flexible hours
