ORGANIZATION The SEED School of Washington, D.C. (SEED DC), the nations first college-preparatory, public boarding school, serves 250 students in grades nine through twelve. Its student body draws from a pool of applicants selected by lottery. SEED DC was established by The SEED Foundation and has existed for 25 years. The schools innovative model integrates a rigorous, college-preparatory academic program with a boarding program that teaches life skills and provides a safe, secure, and nurturing environment 24 hours a day, five days a week. SEED students live on campus and benefit from a collaborative network of families, faculty, staff, and community members. The SEED Program Model is based on 3 Pillars: College Prep Academics, Social Emotional Learning, College Knowledge, & Advising. Throughout the 24-hour learning day, SEED scholars access rigorous academic, residential, mental health, physical health, social, and enrichment programs, all available on campus. To learn more about SEED DC, please visit (link removed) OPPORTUNITYSEED DC is looking for a highly dedicated High School Chemistry Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. Teachers will develop lesson plans, deliver subject material, administer assessments, motivate scholars, and inspire them for success in a college preparatory school program through their teaching and expertise.RESPONSIBILITIES Key Responsibilities of the High School Chemistry Teacher include: Instructional Management Promote high levels of learning in an engaging and effective manner, using a variety of instructional methodologies, curriculum resources, and materials; Communicate knowledge in an interesting, stimulating, and effective manner using a variety of instructional methodologies, curriculum resources, and materials; Integrate literacy strategies into the instructional framework and differentiate instruction to reach all learners; Plan, organize, and deliver appropriate lessons for assigned area(s) of responsibility and submit lesson plans to the Principal on an as-requested basis; Identify the special needs of students and seek additional support as needed. Data Analysis and Curriculum Development Examine student assessment data to inform decision-making and to guide and improve instruction; Professionally assess students learning and communicate students progress to parents and fellow teachers to facilitate future instruction; Collaborate with fellow teachers on planning, professional development, and standards-based curriculum and common assessment design to contribute to the continuous improvement of instruction at the school. Building a Positive Learning Environment Provide for an engaging high school learning environment conducive to student success; Establish and maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning; Assist in general building supervision and discipline of students outside of the classroom. Other Tasks Participate in faculty meetings, workshops, staff development programs, and other school-sponsored activities; Participate in summer programming, including direct service to incoming and returning SEED youth and curriculum work with colleagues; Adhere to the professional and ethical standards as outlined in the SEED PCS Employee Handbook. RequirementsTo fulfill these responsibilities, the ideal High School Chemistry Teacher candidate will have: Bachelors degree in a related field; Praxis II if the degree is in a different field; Masters in a related field and/or prior teaching experience highly desired; Prior full-time teaching experience in a similar setting (preferred); Experience working with diverse students and their families; Must be knowledgeable in the use of technology to develop and maintain systems and processes. BenefitsThis position offers a competitive salary range of $75,000 - $80,000, with an additional signing bonus opportunity of $3,000 (half of the bonus is paid on the start date, and the remaining half is paid at the end of the semester).
