ORGANIZATION The SEED School of Washington, D.C. (SEED DC), the nations first college-preparatory, public boarding school, serves 250 students in grades nine through twelve. Its student body draws from a pool of applicants selected by lottery. The SEED Foundation established SEED DC and has been in existence for 25 years. It was founded on the understanding that a single college graduate can profoundly impact his or her entire family. The schools innovative model integrates a rigorous, college-preparatory academic program with a boarding program that teaches life skills and provides a safe, secure, and nurturing environment 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. SEED students live on campus and benefit from a collaborative network of families, faculty, staff, and community members. The SEED Program Model is based on 3 Pillars: College Prep Academics, Social Emotional Learning, College Knowledge, & Advising. Throughout the 24-hour learning day, SEED scholars access rigorous academic, residential, mental health, physical health, social, and enrichment programs, all available on campus. To learn more about SEED DC, please visit (link removed) The Senior Director of Academics is a senior leadership team member and will work closely with the Director of Student Life, the Director of School Climate and Culture, the Director of Family and Community Engagement, and the Director of Student Support. Collectively, these senior leaders work with the Head of School and are entrusted with maintaining the organization's vision and ensuring that all policies, programs, and interactions with stakeholders align with the schools mission and values. The Senior Director of Academics maintains direct oversight of the academic programs for all grade levels, 24 hours a day, and ensures that safe, successful, and strategic programs are in place for students at SEED across these departments. Reporting to the Head of School, he/she is in daily communication and collaboration with the HOS regarding the implementation of the school program. RESPONSIBILITIESKey Responsibilities of the Senior Director of Academics include:Academic and Instructional LeadershipYou will develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum, instruction, and evaluation model aligned with SEED DCs mission and goals while prioritizing the belief amongst staff that ALL scholars are capable of collegiate success. This role also leads the Principal in developing a 9-12 vertical alignment in the curriculum (including effective special education inclusive classrooms) while consistently monitoring progress, assessing success, and managing fidelity to this plan.People LeadershipYou will directly supervise the following: High School Principal, Executive Assistant to the Senior Director of Academics, and all teachers. This role will also mentor, evaluate, and support staff in their professional growth and teaching effectiveness while facilitating ongoing professional development opportunities for educators to enhance recruitment and retention based on data collected/needs assessments. Strategic Planning and Organizational Leadership:You will develop a strategic plan for comprehensive leadership development and coaching for instructional coaches, assistant directors, and academic directors. This role will also develop and communicate a clear strategic vision for SEED DC in alignment with the leadership team and implement these plans to achieve org-wide academic goals. Compliance and Operations: You will ensure that all academic programming is built in alignment with state and local guidelines and contract requirements and that all network-level academic expectations are met, all while prioritizing graduation requirements are met by all Seniors. This role will also have oversight of curriculum audit, ESE/ ESOL audit, annual school review, and any other academic audit process. Other General Responsibilities include participating as a member of the senior leadership team, assessing training and development needs for the academic program, developing and implementing accountability systems, and working in collaboration with school leaders and all members of the SEED community to build and sustain a culture of student growth and achievement. RequirementsIn order to fulfill these responsibilities, the ideal Senior Director of Academics candidate will have: Five to seven years of experience in school leadership, supervision, and program development in multiple and diverse middle or high school settings, with demonstrated and specific academic results; Knowledge of social, emotional, and cognitive development as well as health/medical needs of students in grades 6-12; A passion and belief that ALL scholars are capable of collegiate success and deep experience with intentional curriculum selection, implementation, and evaluation; A demonstrated growth mindset for self, students, and staff; Deep experience leading, galvanizing, and developing a team with strong results surrounding successful recruitment and retention of staff; Strong communication and interpersonal skills required, with demonstrated strengths in report writing and oral presentations; Must be knowledgeable in the use of technology to develop and maintain systems and processes. BenefitsThis position offers a competitive salary range of $125,000 - $135,000 and robust benefits, including medical, dental, and retirement.
