As a Transportation Manager, your role will be to oversee and manage the transportation operations of the company. You will be responsible for coordinating the movement of products from suppliers to distribution centers and ultimately to customers, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery while maintaining high service levels.


Key Responsibilities:

Transportation Planning and Execution: Develop transportation plans and schedules to meet customer demands while optimizing efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Coordinate with suppliers, carriers, and internal teams to ensure on-time pickups, deliveries, and overall transportation performance.

Carrier Management: Select, negotiate contracts with, and manage relationships with carriers and freight forwarders. Evaluate carrier performance, monitor service levels, and address any issues or concerns to maintain reliable and efficient transportation services.

Route Optimization: Optimize transportation routes to minimize mileage, fuel consumption, and transit times. Analyze data, identify opportunities for route consolidation, and improve overall efficiency.

Freight Rate Management: Manage freight rates and contracts with carriers to ensure competitive pricing and cost-effective transportation solutions. Conduct regular rate negotiations, benchmarking, and analysis to optimize transportation costs while maintaining service quality.

Compliance and Regulatory Requirements: Ensure compliance with transportation regulations and industry standards. Stay informed about transportation regulations, permits, and licenses, and ensure that the company and carriers adhere to all legal and safety requirements.

Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and track transportation performance. Monitor and analyze data to identify trends, address issues, and continuously improve transportation operations. Generate regular reports to communicate performance metrics to management.

Inventory and Warehouse Coordination: Collaborate with inventory management and warehouse teams to synchronize transportation activities with inventory levels and distribution center capacities. Ensure accurate and timely product deliveries to meet inventory requirements and minimize stock-outs.

Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement within the transportation function. Implement best practices, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technological solutions to drive operational efficiencies, reduce costs, and enhance service levels.

Budget Management: Develop and manage transportation budgets, including freight costs, carrier contracts, and other transportation-related expenses. Monitor budget performance, identify variances, and implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining service quality.

Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including supply chain, logistics, procurement, and customer service, to ensure effective coordination and alignment of transportation activities with overall business objectives. Foster collaborative relationships and effective communication to resolve transportation-related issues and improve operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in logistics or a closely related field.
  • At least 5 years' experience in a transportation management role within the food & beverages industry.
  • Experience using TMS and ERP systems
  • Experience working with freight carriers
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Sound knowledge of regulatory requirements and principles of transportation.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and transportation management systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with proven ability to gather and manage large data sets
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel
