FHU is seeking a leader with a transportation operations and safety (TOS) background interested in developing and expanding our established TOS group, located in FHUs Mountain West Region. Our existing group of 10 engineers offers unique expertise in traffic operational analysis, microsimulation, travel demand modeling, signal systems, safety analytics, and Vision Zero. The leader we are seeking must have demonstrated success in these areas in addition to success in staffing projects, project management, budget management, organizational competency, and staff management. The leader must be able to grow the group in new directions by developing a plan for extension of our services into related TOS work with existing and new clients. This leader will manage the TOS staff to support project delivery while assuring collaborative working relationships among the staff and project managers. The leader will collaborate with other leaders in the company to support TOS needs and provide consistency and quality in FHU deliverables across the company.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary duties and responsibilities are listed below; other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage and lead FHUs Mountain West Transportation Operations and Safety Group including establishing and implementing a strategic vision for the group, providing mentoring and guidance to staff, managing staffing efforts, overseeing quality control/quality assurance processes, and participating in regular staff meetings and project coordination meetings.
  • Help develop FHU staff and encourage growth in TOS areas of interest such as microsimulation, data analytics, Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures (ATSPM).
  • Manage the TOS elements of multi-disciplinary transportation projects as a task lead including schedule, budget, scope, and coordination with other discipline task leads.
  • Manage independent TOS projects including contracting, scope and fee development, team management, client management, and deliverables with attention to meeting scope, fee, and schedule.
  • Support business development and marketing efforts for transportation related projects aligning with skill sets currently within or that may offer growth into areas of interest of the FHU TOS team. Lead marketing efforts for TOS-specific projects.
  • Lead industry presence in our TOS services, including technical presentations at conferences; strive for leadership roles on key industry groups, and serve as a trusted expert in our current markets.
  • Support TOS staff with skill building and broadening for successful project completion, sharing knowledge of project management tasks related to project scope, task fee, and level of effort for staff development.
  • Represent the TOS staff to other disciplines within the FHU team to balance workload, assess complexity of assignments, and assign appropriate skill sets to appropriate projects.
  • Coordinate business development and project workload with TOS discipline group managers in other FHU regions as needed.

SALARY RANGE: $130,000 - $170,000

The actual salary offer will carefully consider a range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, and experience.


Requirements

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelors degree in civil/transportation engineering or related field from an accredited four-year college
  • Masters degree in a related field is desirable
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in traffic operations and safety related work utilizing Colorado state and local criteria and standards
  • Previous experience marketing consulting TOS services to agencies and other consulting teaming partners
  • Established relationships with Colorado public sector clients for TOS services is desirable
