Title: Driver

Status: Full-time, Non-exempt

Hours: 6:00 am end of run, overtime possible

Manages Others: No

Reports to: Shipping Supervisor

Travel: On the road (OTR) time 8-10 hours/day

Position Summary

Provide excellent customer service by making prompt and courteous deliveries of customer orders. Conduct and distribute pick-ups as necessary. Perform general warehouse duties and material handling as needed. Perform all job responsibilities in a safe, timely and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

  • Receive daily direction and review shipment log. Stage truck, receive paperwork.
  • Conduct customer runs throughout southern/central Michigan.
  • Fuel truck, monitor truck performance and maintenance. Notify supervisor of maintenance needs. Should a break down occur, physically stay with truck until maintenance/towing arrives.
  • Unload/distribute incoming products to all plants.
  • Process paperwork including internal log (fuel, oil, etc.) maintenance log, run sheets (destinations, mileage, fuel costs. Perform periodic audits of all data collected.
  • Material handling including warehousing, distribution, and disposal.
  • Load truck accurately and safely for customer deliveries.
  • Unload truck as needed at customer and/or branch locations.
  • Maintain appropriate licensing, credentials and acceptable driving record.
  • Conduct self in a professional and ethical manner at all times. Treat external and internal customers and associates with courtesy and respect.
  • Fill customer orders by retrieving material from the warehouse and other locations.
  • Check in and put away material, verifying quantities and quality of received material. Ensure material is properly organized.
  • Know location of merchandise in warehouse. Help keep material organized and put away.
  • Assist Plant shipping department. Wrap skids in warehouse. Perform other packaging, inventory control, and warehouse assistance as needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Able to work without immediate supervision.
  • Exemplary attendance is absolutely critical.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good appearance. (Uniform will be provided if needed.)
  • Approachable, friendly, presentable, good customer service skills.
  • Comfortable performing written logs and communications.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Current Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card.
  • Current with DOT regulations for driving a truck.
  • CDL B with airbrakes.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and arms to finger, handle, feel, or carry; reach with hands and arms. The employee is usually required to sit; sometimes climb or balance or stoop; kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is regularly required to lift up to 10 lbs. and up to 25 lbs. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 50 lbs. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to safely tolerate heat in the summer and cold in the winter.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear; read and identify numbers for accurate order filling and receiving of material. The employee is regularly required to apply sound reasoning and logic performing daily tasks.
