The Personal Lines Underwriter is responsible for working closely with Independent Agents, marketing, and claims to grow profitably within assigned territories by fostering strong relationships and understanding the competitive landscape of your territory. As an underwriter, you will also review, assess, accept, or reject new business submissions, renewal policies, and change requests to allow the Concord Group to effectively execute our growth and profitability plans.

This job will be sitting in Concord NH and moving to Bedford NH in Q1 of 2023.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and work within underwriting guidelines, department standards and authority levels to accept, reject, or mitigate risk for new business submissions, renewal policies, and change requests
  • Review and analyze risk characteristics as warranted on automobile, homeowner, dwelling fire, and personal umbrella insurance applications, change requests, inspection reports, motor vehicle records, and other information sources
  • Effectively communicate our underwriting guidelines, positive and negative underwriting decisions, and other related matters verbally and in writing to agents, insureds, co-workers, and regulators
  • Partner with marketing to execute strategies to strengthen Agency relationships
  • Lead initiatives to implement changes to mitigate risk, improve processes and strengthen company position within a state
  • Perform assigned agency reviews to evaluate performance, recommend and implement corrective action, including agency visitations and/or terminations

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree preferred, other post-secondary education and/or equivalent experience required
  • 3-5 years of front-line underwriting experience
  • Holding or pursuing industry licenses, designations, and certificates is a plus
  • Ability to assess underwriting guidelines, policy language, regulatory language, contracts and apply them to individual risks
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate decisions to Agents and leadership in a constructive manner
