Our partner is currently hiring for an Underwriting Product Consultant - Workers' Compensation role in Des Moines, IA, which can be done remotely from anywhere in the United States. The consultant will be responsible for leading, researching, and coordinating the ownership, execution, strategy, administration, and development of products and programs focused mainly on Workers' Compensation.

Responsibilities:

• Create and communicate best practices and underwriting guidance
• Act as a strategic partner for branches and other corporate departments
• Serve as a highly skilled technical expert in Corporate Underwriting on responses to questions
• Analyze premium and loss data and other key reports on monthly and quarterly basis
• Proactively communicate and make necessary recommendations to management for improvement needed to meet company goals and improve underwriting results
• Develop new product ideas, reviews existing and drafts new coverage language
• Evaluate the cost and benefit of market opportunities and product initiatives and recommend actions based on evaluation
• Identify product improvements for complex products and recommend pricing strategies
• Evaluate complex underwriting risks and provide analysis and guidance to all branch underwriting staff in determining the acceptability of business
• Assess coverage, limits, and pricing on complex accounts and provide branches with authorizations on accounts above branch authority
• Review and study proposed changes in rules, rates, and forms for various assigned lines controlled by NCCI, state bureaus, and company programs
• Prepare any necessary changes and new information for company manuals, policy forms, and statistical coding

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in a business or insurance related field, or equivalent relevant experience
• Ten years of commercial property and casualty underwriting, including at least three years of staff underwriting experience
• Advanced, proven knowledge of companywide and countrywide underwriting techniques, terminology, policies, and forms
  
• Excellent underwriting judgment and decision-making skills
• Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
• Ability to work effectively with others, as well as independently and possess demonstrated problem-solving abilities
• Strong computer knowledge, Internet, and keyboarding skills
• Occasional travel; a valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if traveling
• Insurance designations, such as AU, CIC, or CPCU preferred

Benefits

• Per the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the hiring range for this position for Colorado-based team members is $110,000 - $142,000. The hiring range for other locations may vary.
• Candidates may qualify for a Sr. Underwriting Product Consultant if they meet the requirements
• Per the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the hiring range for this position for Colorado-based team members is $119,000 - $153,000. The hiring range for other locations may vary.
