St. Lukes School, a secular, college-preparatory day school serving grades 5 through 12 in New Canaan, Connecticut, seeks to add an Upper School Physics teacher to its Fellows Program. The Fellows Program is an incredible opportunity to learn from experienced, master teachers at a school that leads the way in educating educators. Fellows have a two or three class course load and are a part of a robust cohort of creative, flexible, and high-energy early career teachers. With equal focus on teaching and learning the craft of teaching, this two-year program provides structured time during the day to plan, observe, and reflect. With our consistent and constructive feedback, generous professional development, academic technology support, and immersion in constructivist pedagogy, Fellows leave the St. Lukes program as experienced and highly marketable educators.

The recently-constructed science wing includes Harkness tables in each classroom, ample laboratory bench areas and state-of-the-art technologies, and the St. Lukes designLab -- a 4000+ sq ft digital and physical fabrication lab and the home for design thinking, engineering, and computer science at St. Lukes.

We are looking for individuals with strong content knowledge, sharp communication skills, an inherent drive to be productive and involved, and a pronounced enjoyment of students, their lives, interests, and goals. Candidates with summer camp, coaching, or any experience in which strong connections with students are forged, are encouraged to apply.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Teach two Upper School Science classes of 11th grade Classical Physics (ability to also teach other disciplines is desirable, but not required).
  • Meet regularly with the Fellows Director and other members of the Fellows cohort.
  • Participate in an after-school activity each season (athletic coaching preferred).
  • Serve as a Co-Advisor for 5-8 Upper School students.
  • Assist with supervisory duties, such as study hall proctoring, lunchroom supervision, detention duty, and chaperoning events outside school hours.

Key Skills and Qualities:

  • Inspiring, positive, high-capacity/bandwidth, and adaptable
  • Ability to manage a complex calendar and meet deadlines
  • Eagerness to pursue continuous improvement with feedback
  • Superb oral and written communication skills
  • Bachelors or Masters degree with strong content knowledge in the discipline
  • Highly developed cultural competency skills, with demonstrated commitment to furthering the creation of an equitable and inclusive school community that supports a sense of belonging for all students

Proof of full covid vaccination required upon hiring. All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.

To apply, please include a cover letter, resume, and references as a single pdf file addressed to Abby Abbott, Fellows Program Director and Jim Foley, Assistant Head of School for Leadership & Innovation.
