Our industry-leading research and design team, as well as all primary administrative departments, are based out of our Houston office, located near I-10 & 6-10 in Spring Branch, Houston, Texas.

Job Title

Variable Frequency Drive Technician (VFD) / Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Technician

Summary

The VFD / PLC Technician will support our Companys operations with the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of our in-house Integrated Motor & VFD Control products, while limiting our downtime. The Technician will be required to respond to support requests, on-site repairs, and occasionally perform preventative maintenance. To ensure success, the best candidate will have in-depth knowledge of commercial/industrial electrical circuits, 3-phase motors, Variable Frequency Drives, and PLCs. The person accepting this full-time position will be resourceful, independent, goal-driven, and most importantly, a team player.

Reports to: Senior Controls Manager

Location: This position will be based out of the Houston Headquarters.

Travel Required: Travel time to be 5% or less.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Identifying needs for VFD electronic devices.
  • Installation, repair, and maintenance of PLCs and Variable Frequency Drives, motor drives, and 480v systems.
  • Repairing the old electrical devices and equipment.
  • Performing testing of various PLC / VFD controls units.
  • Checking electrical components stocks levels and restocking them.
  • Reviewing all the electrical components of the controls.
  • Understanding the working of Variable Frequency Drive field equipment.
  • Understanding the workings of PLC equipment.
  • Replacing old or defective electronic devices with new ones.
  • Calibrating the newly installed devices and equipment.
  • Basic PLC troubleshooting.
  • Perform upgrades of hardware and software and train others on how to properly operate the system.
  • Educating and training the team members on these devices.
  • Maintaining the Variable Frequency Devices on a regular basis.
  • Providing excellent interdepartmental service and satisfaction.
  • Working in collaboration with the Electrical team members.

Requirements

Experience

  • 2 years of work experience as a Variable Frequency Drive Field Technician, Variable Frequency Drive Technician, or a similar position in the Engineering field.
  • 2 years of work experience as a PLC technician, or a similar position in the Engineering field. (Siemens, Omron)

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to load programs and parameters sets.
  • Sound knowledge of Variable Frequency Drive electrical systems. (Siemens, Yaskawa, AB)
  • Ability to read, interpret, and draw electrical system structures.
  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities.
  • Knowledge and experience in calibrating equipment.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with low voltage devices, such as 600VAC and lower.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Good interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Reliable personal transportation and valid drivers license.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to inspect and troubleshoot electrical control panels, point to point, etc.
  • Ability to follow instructions and independently function to meet departmental requirements within a defined time frame.
  • Experience with Siemens TIA portal, OMRON CX-One.
  • Experience with Yaskawa A1000, V1000, GA500/800, Siemens G Series VFDs.
  • Proficient with a Digital Multi Meter.
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Office, basic purchasing, and other misc. Office applications)
  • Excellent attention to detail with a focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Identify unsafe conditions or potential hazards within the work environment.
  • Provide your own personal trade tools (preferred, but not required)
