Role Summary:

Reporting to the SVP/Chief Medical Officer (CMO), this individual partners with the CMO to develop strategic plans and objectives. It provides planning and innovative solutions to translate strategy into operations. This individual shall leverage CRICOs unique collaborative and iterative process to develop its patient safety and risk interventions and to implement these initiatives across its stakeholders. This approach will be the basis for how this individual will work collaboratively with our member stakeholder groups to guide CRICOs Patient Safety resources to our institutional patient safety, quality improvement, risk management colleagues, and front-line providers.

As part of CRICOs established Strategic Goals, this individual will lead the Patient Safety Department to coordinate closely with CRICO member and organization initiatives, but also in addition, continues to focus on CRICOs high-risk priorities areas and to deploy its resources accordingly.

This position requires close working partnerships with other departments within CRICO, such as the Advanced Data Analytics and Coding team within Patient Safety, and collaborations with Claims, Underwriting, and Finance departments to develop, implement, and deploy a set of incentives as well as disincentives that would facilitate the adoption of these initiatives. This role will also oversee CRICOs Risk Assessment Unit and direct these resources to our members in partnership with the CMO and other key team members.

Principal Duties & Accountabilities:

  • Develop solid partnerships and relationships to create an integrated patient safety team with the SVP/CMO and Vice President of Advanced Data Analytics and Coding, providing consultative and clinical domain expertise.
  • Provides leadership to the PSO, Grants, Program Directors, Risk Assessment Unit, and Education Administration staff, including oversight, planning, and implementation of strategic and operational patient safety initiatives.
  • Responsible for fostering close collaboration with claims, underwriting, and IT to ensure an integrated approach to customer service delivery, including managing various premium incentive and discount programs, claims services, and IT-related projects for our shareholders.
  • Responsible for working with the CMO and VP of Advanced Analytics in developing and implementing the Patient Safety strategy.
  • Responsible for working with the CMO to provide evidence to the Operations Committee of the CRICO Board to support the return on investment for continuing to support high visibility programs supported by grants and CRICO-directed initiatives.
  • The VP participates with other senior leaders to establish strategic plans and objectives, regularly interacting with executives on matters of significance to the company.
  • Responsible for the development/maintenance of enduring educational content for Patient Safety.
  • Participates in other initiatives as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge: Education, Experience, & Skills

  • BS/BA required; RN, MD, or other clinical degree/certification required; MBA/MPH or other related Masters level degree desirable.
  • 5+ years of management experience successfully leading, managing, and mentoring a team of skilled professionals with the demonstrated ability to direct and accomplish broad-based implementations in a complex healthcare setting
  • 10+ years related clinical experience in a health care/patient safety setting such as a hospital or large physician group or risk management and insurance industry experience related to health care
  • Subject matter expert in areas of patient safety and healthcare quality improvement
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, complex environment and set priorities to achieve results.
  • A well-balanced, thoughtful leader with a collaborative and participative style who has a genuine interest in developing new and innovative approaches to mitigating malpractice risk and medical errors and improving healthcare quality
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills to work successfully with individuals at all levels inside and outside of CRICO
