Vice President of Engineering – Product Development and Sustaining Engineering



 



Frozen Beverage Dispensers is a private family-owned leading frozen beverage dispenser manufacturing company headquartered in San Antonio, Texas. We are a global leader in the manufacturing of frozen beverage dispensers because we deliver the most reliable dispensers. We sell our dispensers to convenience stores, quick service restaurants, movie theatres, military bases and theme parks. We are a family-oriented company, and we value our employees and their work-life balance. Our manufacturing facility operates day shift only. We are located in San Antonio Texas, near I-35 and I-410 close the Alamo Heights area and airport area.

 



We are looking for a hands-on engineer with deep technical expertise to lead the technical development and sustaining engineering for FBD’s products. This position will report directly to the President/CEO and will require strong leadership skills with the ability to foster great working relationships with the Sales and Operations Departments. Our V.P. of Engineering is responsible for the overall strategy, design, development and continuous improvement of new and existing products. The position will manage and align all product development initiatives with a focus on strategic priorities, day-to-day management of simultaneous projects, delivering manufacturable designs to agreed specifications within time and budget constraints, and fostering innovative solutions to customer needs.



 



Primary Responsibilities:



 



Engineering Leadership and Technical Skills




  • Evaluate the current Engineering talent, determine gaps in engineering knowledge and or organizational positioning in order to implement proper training or organizational restructuring.

  • Prioritize and direct all engineering projects and take responsibility for hiring, performance management and coaching employees.

  • Lead the vision, strategy and direction of the FBD Engineering teams.

  • Monitor engineering performance regarding overall cost-effectiveness, product quality and productivity.

  • Develop technologies regarding new refrigeration and electromechanical systems that impact our industry and build a strategy to lead the market.

  • Conduct and leverage Value Engineering methodologies in order to enhance the company’s products for quality and manufacturability.

  • Develop and implement engineering standards, design specifications, and engineering change process with a pragmatic approach and call for action.

  • Collaborate with other members of the executive management team to align departmental strategy and direction with the overall goals of the organization.



 



Develop New Products and Improving Existing Products




  • Conduct and leverage a comprehensive competitive gap analysis to better understand the company’s product features/benefits/prices versus competitor products.

  • Understand the “Voice of the Customer” in order to capture customer requirements (wants/needs) via customer interactions and market research and leverage into the company’s product development process.

  • Work with internal and external customers to ensure continuous customer satisfaction.

  • Formalize the company’s product development process that includes new product strategy from conception to market that will ensure a continued flow of new and innovative products.

  • Develop new creative products with sound technical ability and outstanding leadership in order to rapidly optimize the launch of new products. Responsible for all operations associated with engineering and developing products.

  • Drive enhancements to product performance by partnering with manufacturing and quality functions to address field, production and warranty issues and update and enhance product designs as required.

  • Directs the design operations that align with specifications, financial budgets, technical feasibility and manufacturability.



 



Qualifications:




  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical engineering. Advanced degree in Engineering is preferred. Masters’ in Business Administration is a plus.

  • A minimum of 15 years in engineering with at least 7 years leading and managing technical teams.

  • Knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics refrigeration technology is highly desired.

  • Experience in a commercial products environment with machining, welding and assembly manufacturing processes.

  • Strong financial and business acumen.

  • Must possess the following competencies: Leadership, Interpersonal Skills, High Level Strategic Planning, Decision Making and Problem Solving Skills, Organizational Skills, High Energy, Commit to Task/Initiative, Attention to Detail, Compliant, Adaptable, Ethical, Assertive and Spoken and Written Communication, Technical Engineering Expertise Skills in Mechanical Design and Industrial Engineering,
