The Position

Alene Candles is seeking a Wax Manager. This is a full-time, fully benefited salaried position. You will be responsible for maintaining wax schedules and ensuring production needs are met, plan work, make assignments, and train new employees. A successful candidate for this role should have extensive hands-on experience in all disciplines of Manufacturing Operations. Additionally, the individual should possess excellent people skills combined with solid technical knowledge. You must be able to multi-task, with a demonstrated ability to develop and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Lastly, you are responsible for managing permanent, temporary, and seasonal employees while promoting a safety conscious environment.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who has 5-10 years experience in a manufacturing environment. At least one year of previous supervisory experience is required. We prefer a candidate with an Associates degree or higher, however we will consider a combination of education and experience. You should be someone who is safety conscious as you will be driving safety initiatives for the department. Due to the nature of the job, you should have solid basic math skills including fractions, percentages, and ratios. Please note there will be a math skill assessment required for this role.

Job Functions:

  • Strong driver of safety initiatives and awareness.
  • Conducts all operations in accordance with state and federal laws, good business ethics, company policies, principles, and procedures, and under direction of the Plant Manager.
  • Hands-on managerial approach: 40% of time spent on the production floor solving issues and managing workflow.
  • Maintain Alene 5S standards of performance and comply with housekeeping, safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintains product at established quality standards. Leads team members in monitoring processes and machines to ensure quality product is produced.
  • Maintains awareness of materials and parts inventory needed to fulfill production needs and avoid downtime.
  • Supervision of wax mixing, tank farm and inventory activities and staff.
  • Review production schedule for capacity requirements and daily production needs.
  • Prepare all necessary paperwork, coordinate activities and designate appropriate daily work assignments.
  • Monitor raw component melting needed for production wax batches RE: HVO, micro, flakes and components needing oven work.
  • Analyzes, plans, and recommends optimum plant/production layout to improve manufacturing methods and increase productivity/efficiency
  • Supervises raw material inventory and maintain 99.5% accuracy.
  • Coordinate activities and designate appropriate daily work assignments.
  • Oversee and enforce standard operating procedures to maintain quality and accuracy.
  • Communicate to other shifts completion on necessary tasks required of them.
  • Consults with management, sales, purchasing, and other staff regarding wax capabilities, wax schedules, customer needs, and other considerations to facilitate planning and maximize production.
  • Manage staffing, training, and performance evaluations to develop and improve staff
  • Consults with the Plant Manager and Human Resources to resolve personnel and staffing issues. Evaluates, develops, and disciplines employees on all shifts
  • Supervises hourly, non-exempt Wax Team. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; motivating and appraising performance; reward and discipline of employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems, project organization and process improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in a related field; combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience.
  • Basic math skills including fractions, percentages, and ratios.
  • Solid computer skills including Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Not afraid to adopt a hands-on approach and learn (and perfect) assembly techniques.
  • Understands capacity planning and has a vision for plant layout and workflow.
  • Must have excellent teamwork, strong verbal, and written communication skill
  • Solid coaching, mentoring and motivation skills.
  • Must be able to foster an environment of mutual respect and professionalism on all levels.
  • Experience with 5S, poke-yoke implementation and Kaizen events.

  • Action-orientated individual with a strong emphasis on closure and implementation.
