The Financial Manager is responsible for managing the financial aspects of assigned divisions of Start Early. The Financial Manager will establish a financial monitoring system with a focus on adherence to Start Early internal and funder mandated standards. The manager will monitor the day-to-day financial operations of assigned divisions and will oversee the financial auditing duties. Responsibilities include support in preparation of the annual budget, monthly forecasting, grant budget reporting, submission of funder vouchers, and financial analysis as needed.
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Financial Planning & Analysis, you will:
Support Division Leaders in the development and monitoring of budgets, projected revenue, operating costs, capital and extraordinary expenditures, and take the lead role in the analysis of assigned divisions monthly financials and issues summary with recommendations for formal forecasting.
Monitor assigned divisions to ensure that internal and external financial regulations and policies are met. Orient and provide technical assistance to staff regarding financial procedures and required documentation mandated by funders.
Identify adjusting journal entries and assure they are submitted in a timely manner for monthly closes and the year-end close. Provide approval for expenditures as designated and work with the division staff to ensure a timely submission of invoices to accounts payable.
Assure payroll information in the General Ledger, as well as the supporting subsidiary ledger, is accurate. Prepare financial reports for internal leadership and external stakeholders.
Work in collaboration with the Grants Manager in the development of grant budgets and establishment of compliance standards to monitor the spend-down of the private grants. Make recommendations regarding shifts in allocation of funding where needed in order to balance expenses with budgets.
Participate in Finance division meetings and other assigned workgroups. Develop and maintain expertise in Start Earlys accounting systems, including Navision, Concur, Adaptive, Jet Reports and the salary database.
Identify and proactively research and make recommendations for process improvement opportunities as well as best system utilization.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field; Masters degree preferred.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in nonprofit, grant management and advanced financial analysis environment.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Operational knowledge of general ledger software. Knowledge of Microsoft Navision preferred. Advanced skills with Microsoft Word & Excel.
Ability to understand, analyze and interpret financial information in varying formats.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Ability to work with diverse staff and interface with all levels of management.
Ability to managing multiple tasks, address shifting priorities, exercise independent judgment, and accomplish assignments in a timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to follow through on tasks under tight timeframes.

Comfort and experience in handling risk and uncertainty to move work forward.
Salary: $90K - $95K
We believe that all employees should be paid fairly and equitably. As of the time of this posting, this is the expected base annual salary range. The base annual salary will be based on a wide range of factors, including skills, qualifications, experience, as well as business needs and limitations.
