JOB DESCRIPTION Purchasing manager is responsible for the coordinating of a wide variety of activities for the purchase of all materials, supplies, equipment, and services used by the company. - Negotiates with vendors for goods and services, negotiating the best possible price, delivery, and service guarantee.
- Ensures compliance with established purchasing policies
- Establish proper replenishment levels of inventory and supplies.
- Work with sales staff and management to establish proper inventory levels.
- Responsible for mill direct purchases or delegating to a purchasing agent.
- Responsible for reviewing, writing, negotiating, and awarding all stock & release contracts either directly or by assigning to a purchasing agent.
- Direct and coordinate the release of materials within the stock & release contracts.
- Help negotiate and coordinate the purchases of all non-inventory related items, such as packaging material, pallets, cleaning and paper products.
- Collaborate with the receiving and warehouse manager to ensure materials that need to be returned to vendors are done so in a timely manner.
- Work with inventory control to establish and maintain a cycle inventory count schedule.
- Ensure that purchasing documents are maintained in a systematic retrievable manner.
- Communicate with sales and management regarding industry trends, new vendors, new products, etc
- Establish and monitor freight issues; assign cost that relates directly to the inventory.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of TFI software as it relates to purchasing and make recommendations for new software applications that may be beneficial.
- Develops new supply sources where vendors are inadequate.
- Negotiates blanket purchase orders when appropriate and monitors cost during the time period.
- Checks requisitions for appropriate approval and account numbers.
- Works closely with receiving department to ensure proper supplies arrived.
- Traces delinquent arrivals from purchase orders.
- Follows environmental and safety regulations and acts in compliance with U.S. laws.
- Complies with safety and corporate guidelines on business ethics.
