Position Overview

Reporting to the Chief Capacity Building Officer, the Learning & Leadership Manager will manage a portfolio of training programs intended to build the capacity of staff and volunteers within the nonprofit organizations. As a sector support professional, the Learning & Leadership Manager will identify and monitor training needs in the sector, and design, plan, and implement training programs, policies, and procedures to fulfill the needs of organizations a variety of mission scope. The approximate breakdown of the primary role responsibilities is 60% Program Development and Participant/Client Support and 40% Marketing, Sales. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

Program Development and Participant/Client Support (60%)

  • Develop and manage the annual work plan for the Learning & Leadership program portfolio including executing the marketing and sales strategies as directed by the Chief Capacity Building Officer.
  • Reviews existing training programs; suggests enhancements and modifications to improve engagement, learning, and retention and/or to meet the changing needs of clientele, the organization, or the industry.
  • Ensures that training materials and programs are current, accurate, and effective.
  • Maintains knowledge of new methods and techniques for training, and training requirements applicable to the organization and/or industry.
  • Identifies problems and opportunities such as operational changes or industry developments that training could improve.
  • Conducts or facilitates required and recommended training sessions.
  • Collaborates with vendors and third-party training providers to arrange employee registration for and participation in outside training programs.
  • Ensures that training milestones and goals are met while adhering to approved training budget.
  • Oversees the daily activities of training associates and consultants.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive
  • Prepares and implements annual training budget

Marketing & Sales Development / Capacity Building (35%)

  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with service providers, organizational and government/public partners, including nonprofit agencies.
  • Work closely with Marketing and Communications to draft effective messages to target communities
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities through targeted prospecting and lead generation effort
  • Utilize sales techniques and product knowledge to persuade potential customers to purchase our products or service
  • Utilize CRM software to manage and track sales activities and customer interaction
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales team members to develop effective sales strategies and marketing campaign

Organization-wide duties (5%)

  • Generate and compile reports, metrics and outcomes
  • As requested, assist in the promotion of Learning & Leadership by representing CVNL at relevant community forums and events
  • Other duties as assigned


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Travel:
This is a full-time, exempt position. Occasional travel within the North Bay Area is typical for this position with standard mileage reimbursements available. Standard hours are Monday through Friday 9am-5pm with occasional events or meetings on weekends or evenings.

Physical Demands:

  • Basic computer desk work
  • Required to stand, walk, bend, reach above shoulders, climb and balance
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs.
  • Occasionally work outside, supervising, training or driving in a variety of road and wet and/or humid weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Communications, Business Administration or equivalent combination of skills and professional experience
  • Experience with project management is desired
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the nonprofit sector
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience with staff or volunteers
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to facilitate small and large groups in person and online (Zoom)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong graphic design ability.
  • Ability to make marketing presentation in person and on-line.
  • Thorough understanding of training processes
  • High level of customer service; professional demeanor
  • Strong organizational, verbal, grammatical and written skills
  • Demonstrated success using CRM databases such as Salesforce
  • Familiarity with marketing programs such as Canva, MailChimp
  • Knowledge of budgeting and reporting
  • Highly motivated, detail and results oriented
  • Bilingual in Spanish highly preferred
  • Proven ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse groups of varying cultures, ethnicities, age groups, abilities, etc.

Compensation:
The budgeted starting salary that CVNL reasonably expects to pay for this position is $70,000-$85,000. This takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, external market comparisons for similar positions in similar geographic locations and size. Offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
