The Linux Systems Engineer will lead in the planning, design, development, implementation, and execution Linux systems engineering for the Charter Datacenter. Drives identification and adoption of best-in-class development. Designs, develops and implements platform enhancements and makes recommendations for improvements.
Duties and Responsibilities
Experience with project management and workflow tools such as Agile, Jira, Scrum/Kanban/SAFe, confluence etc.
Create Golden Image Linux templates for production and lab use, based upon industry best-practices and business requirements
Hands-on experience with creating Linux system images and publishing to a repository system such as Artifactory, etc.
Hands-on experience designing, implementing and optimizing Linux file-systems is required
Development using a variety of languages which may include Python, Node.js, Java, Golang, or shell scripting
Design, develop, and implement complex quality assurance tests, reporting, and analytics for Linux systems
Design, develop and implement standard packages using various Linux package-managers (apt, yum, etc.)
Interact with various stakeholders to understand their business needs, communicate project status and develop relationships to ensure satisfaction
Expertly use tools and analytics to provide insight and make recommendations
Write and review pull/merge requests in Git
Leverage various data and technology resources to augment analysis
Participate in visualization design and deployment review sessions to ensure all technical and functional requirements have been met
Provide ad-hoc analysis to address specific business questions from stakeholder groups

Mentor and lead junior developers in both design and technology
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, and / or equivalent work experience
Minimum six (6) years of engineering work experience
Minimum five (5) years of experience in systems engineering
Minimum three (3) years of experience with at least one of the following; Ruby, Node.js, JavaScript, C#, Java, Golang, and/or Python
Hands-on experience creating Ansible playbooks for automation of standard system tasks
Strong experience with LDAP mandatory
Strong experience with logging systems such as Splunk, Graylog, Logstash, etc
Strong experience with API-driven configuration
Strong experience in the operational nature of a deployed software system
Proficiency with code repositories, development frameworks, programming languages such as Ruby, Go and Python.
Familiar with Test Driven Development (TDD)
Understanding of RESTful design principals
Ability to assess a problem and determine an effective course of action with sustainable solutions
Aptitude to flourish handling multiple tasks, workload, changing priorities and tight deadlines

Demonstrable Programming and scripting skills, especially as part of a larger team, Python, Bash (, and preference for X if you have them)
Experience with physical hardware install, provisioning, and troubleshooting
Experience with initial setup and installation to make resources available to team
Experience with Linux troubleshooting, hardening, and performance tuning
Experience provisioning physical and virtual compute resources for team use
Strong experience with version control and workflow tooling such as GIT (GitLab, GitHub)
Experience in working with Ansible, Chef, or Puppet for automation and configuration
Familiarity with logging, monitoring, and alerting tools and setup
Experience with Linux based infrastructure and Linux administration
Experience with container technologies such as Docker
Experience setting up and working with virtual machine technologies, VmWare, OpenStack, etc.
Experience with CI technologies such as Jenkins, GitLab CI
Offer technical support where needed, developing software for our back-end systems, and subsequent deployment sequences
Strong documentation skills, able to create and update our processes documentation as needed
Red Hat Certified System Administrator preferred
