Position: Sr. Project Manager

Duration: 1 year with extension possible

Location: Augusta, ME-- Remote Until Safe Re-Entry. Will Need to be Onsite within 2 Weeks' Notice

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the approval and sign-off of the project plan
  • Accountable for management of scope for the project and gaining agreement and approval of scope changes
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and customer representatives
  • Direct work planning and scheduling design work
  • Manage, and track the project progress against the project plan
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all project-related issues and resolution of issues
  • Coordinate and present proposals to Stakeholders as necessary
  • Identify and manage program risk and develops risk mitigation strategies, track to closure
  • Ensure team leads adjust and revise estimates when necessary
  • Anticipate issues and proactively address them. Resolve conflicts with sensitivity and tact.
  • Coordinate the establishment of project standards and project-specific procedures with team leads
  • Responsible for project compliance with standards and procedures
  • Responsible for the capture and reporting of required project management metrics
  • Responsible to tailor and baseline all project templates
  • Develop and facilitate achievement of project service commitments and performance metrics
  • Ensure that tasks provide value and support the strategic direction of the project and meet service commitments
  • Accountable for the final project management evaluation review with stakeholders for approval upon project completion
  • Identify and track issues
  • Balance workload with project members' capacity
  • Communicate to team members how their work assignments relate to and help achieve project objectives
  • Plan project-specific training and orientation needs

Skills:

  • Preference - experience in networking/telephony
  • Preference experience in contract development
  • Project Management; Expert, 10+yrs.
  • Expert in scope, schedule, risk, and communication management processes
  • Experience with Organization Change Management
  • Ability to manage large project teams
  • Experience in Vendor management
  • Ability to navigate political issues with the project
  • Strict discipline to assess, monitor, and control project risks
  • Strong planning skills; able to create a detailed schedule, monitor and drive progress against the schedule
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have a strong, outgoing personality with the ability to be stern when needed while also establishing and maintaining a positive teamwork environment
  • Experience gathering level of effort data as related to the scope of the project
  • Experience in developing all required assets to execute a project plan: Scope & Schedule Mgmt. plan, Risk Mgmt. plan, Resource plan, Communication plan
  • Experience developing core project monitor, control, and communication tools: schedule, risk log, status reporting
  • Experience working within a matrix-model accountability structure: project-to-operations-to-PMO
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Highly organized and problem-solver
  • Proficient in MS Project, MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint

To ensure success, this Senior Project Manager role will partner closely with Executives and Managers from all areas of Maine IT.

To achieve success, there are four major areas of the Senior Project Manager's responsibilities will be:

  1. Team Collaboration
    1. Coordinate and facilitate technology-driven requirements and conceptual design planning
    2. Working with assigned Sponsor and core team to ensure project resource plan is clear, complete, and achievable; communication plan is complete and accepted; schedule is clear and reasonable
    3. Working with Vendors to define achievable plans and to mitigate risks with reasonable expectations
  2. Project Management
    1. Core project monitoring and controlling tools are in place: scope management, detailed schedule, communication plan, risk management plan
    2. Perform resource planning based on scope; work within a matrix management environment
    3. High level of rigor to clear potential impacts to project milestones
    4. Ensure the project's progress, status, and challenges are communicated to a broad audience in a concise manner, on a recurring basis
  3. Leadership
    1. Lead the project team through fact-based processes to support good decision-making
    2. Courage to challenge issues and roadblocks; confidence to challenge assumptions
    3. Commitment to ensuring core team and sponsorship know where the project is going and why.
    4. Drive resolution efforts to remove barriers
  4. Technical acumen
    1. Possess experience needed to participate/contribute in highly technical discussions.
