Job Description:

General Laborer

• The number of hours per week may vary, sometimes less than 40, during the six months.

Brief Description Of The Job:

• Assignments include maintaining and repairing City roadways, right-of ways, and other infrastructure.
• General laboring will be required. After hours on-call work, as well as occasional night and weekend hours are required.
• Works with other divisions/departments and performs related duties as required.
• Maintains roadways by cleaning away debris and waste, repairing potholes, crack sealing, and road patching with hot asphalt.
• Works closely with crew members to complete tasks directed from team Lead and/or Supervisor.
• Performs maintenance by cleaning vacant lots, shoulders, retention basins, alleys, and storm drains.
• Maintains right-of-ways by repairing guard rails, fencing, sidewalks, curb and gutter, and handicap ramps.
• Other activities include chopping weeds, trimming trees and shrubs, cleaning litter, spreading aggregate and landscape DG rock. - Follows all safety rules and regulations, keeps work area and equipment in safe operating condition; reports safety hazards, traffic problems, equipment problems and emergency situations.
• Performs maintenance and repairs within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; notifies supervisor of safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations.
• Assists other departments by repairing damage to public property, to include repairing chain link, block fences and pouring concrete.
• Performs other duties as assigned to support the operations of the Public Works Department.
