Job Title: Public Health Nutritionist

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Job Summary:
Performance-Based Requirements: The Contractor shall provide outpatient and inpatient (if desired) registered dietitian services in the delivery of patient care to the Indian Health Service. Specific tasks include the following:
Public Health Nutritionist Duties:

  • The Contractor shall perform outpatient and inpatient (if desired) public health nutritionist-registered dietitian duties and manage patient's needs as described in the (PD), identified by the Service Unit and as directed by Supervisor.
  • The Contractor shall perform in accordance with the competency standards listed in the Shiprock Service Unit Medical Staff By-Laws.
  • The Contractor shall provide professional public health nutritionist-registered dietitian services in the delivery of direct patient care to the Indian Health Service. Specific tasks include the following:
    • Contractor shall exercise and have knowledge of medical nutrition therapy to outpatients and rarely the inpatient department.
    • Priority for selection shall be given to contractors who can experience in diabetes education.
    • There are 8 members of the Health Education Center that form a diabetes education team to include CDE RN's, pharmacist, vision tech and exercise tech. Overall, contractor would work with this team as well as the physician(s) and/or physician assistants/NP's in the outpatient clinic team.
    • The Outpatient Clinic includes same-day and continuity care clinics. The contractor would see between 6-10 outpatients per day.
    • Inpatient work is rare bul at times could include basic diabetes education to a patient who is being discharged if the inpatient dietician is unavailable.
    • Contractor shall provide consultation with members of the Internal Medicine or Family Medicine staff on matters on patient care.
    • Contractor shall review clinical records and adhere to records documentation procedures to insure that records are properly maintained.
    • Contactor may be subject to technical direction and/or guidance of the designated Government official.
    • Contractor's provision of registered dietitian care shall be monitored by the Medical Center's quality assurance plan.

Experience. Registered Dietician license is required.
