Position - Chemistry - Junior Scientist

Location: Thompson St. TN 37179

Duration: 9 months ("Possibility of extension)
Summary
Entry-level position with basic knowledge of Assignment procedures and tools obtained through work experience and may require vocational or technical education. Acquires basic skills to perform routine tasks. Work is prescribed and completed with little autonomy. Works with either close supervision or under clearly defined procedures

Responsibilities
  • Deliver true, accurate results in a timely manner
  • Technical knowledge and expertise in the use and application of specialized analytical instrumentation.
  • Specific instrumentation includes but is not limited to, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, HPLC, GC, LCMSMS, and Wet Chemistry tests.
  • Carrying out routine analysis accurately while following documented methods.
  • Skilled in sample preparation, clean-up, separation, and assay.
  • Monitors regional laboratory needs on a regular basis.
  • Operate, manage & maintain laboratory instrumentation
  • Maintains documentation of analytical results in ELN (Electronic Notebook) and/or the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • When appropriate, help to write/create documents for, and always follow laboratory quality management systems ISO 17025 and Global Laboratory Quality Management System.
  • Work as a team player including open and honest communication, and respecting confidentiality with any laboratory information. Follows Health & Safety requirements for Site and Lab.
  • Understands key scientific principles associated with analytical chemistry analysis.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of laboratory safety, chemicals management, and chemical hygiene plans.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods including sampling plans, statistics, and data interpretation including confidence intervals.
  • Excellent practical laboratory Requirements
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain complex analytical instrumentation.
  • Experience and skill in the use of the following: Computers, Spreadsheet software (MS Excel preferred), and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). Excellent organizational skills to adjust to fluctuating workloads and urgent customer requests while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates ability to follow laboratory safety procedures, maintain accurate records, and clearly and accurately read and interpret data.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
Requirements
  • 1-2 yrs. experience with chemical and/or physical analyses, preferably in food or related industries (advanced education may partially substitute for required experience).
  • Knowledge and accuracy in the use and maintenance of analytical chemistry instrumentation. Preferred Knowledge and Experience
  • 2+ yrs. experience performing analytical testing using LCMS, HPLC, and GC-FID techniques.
  • Experience using SPE for sample preparation.
  • Experience working in an ISO 17025-accredited laboratory.
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or physical science with an emphasis in analytical chemistry Comments for Suppliers: Prefer analysts with experience in HPLC, LCMS, IC, or ICP-OES.
