The Scientist will investigate cell degradation and failure mechanisms. This person will collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as Reliability & Failure Analysis, Process Engineering, Cell Design, R&D, and Manufacturing, to dive deep into the impacts of our cell chemistry on electrochemical performance and failure.

About

Cuberg is commercializing next-generation battery technology to power the future of electric mobility. The company was acquired in 2021 by Northvolt, a global supplier of sustainable, high-quality battery cells and systems. As Northvolt's Advanced Technology Center operating in Silicon Valley, Cuberg is developing and commercializing lithium metal batteries, building an innovation ecosystem around lithium-ion technology, and leveraging Northvolt's state-of-the-art manufacturing capabilities to rapidly scale up production of advanced batteries.

Requirements

  • MS/PhD in Chem Engineering, Materials, or similar
  • 2+ yrs of industry experience in R&D, failure analysis, or reliability (battery preferred)
  • Experience with designing experiments and characterization methods to root cause device failure
  • Competence with data tools (Python, SQL, etc) and statistics
  • Experience communicating technical information clearly to diverse audience


Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Cubergs Reliability and Quality Team on Failure Analysis to identify where deeper understanding of electrochemical, chemical, and physical degradation mechanisms is needed. Plan and execute projects to gain this understanding
  • Identify, develop, and implement characterization methods and techniques
  • Organize and produce clear reports of data and interpretation of results
  • Implement and drive corrective actions and preventive measures to prevent future failures

Benefits

The San Francisco / Bay Area cash compensation (base + bonus) range for this full-time position is $127,000 - $165,000 + equity + benefits.
