NMI is looking for a VP of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to bring significant experience leading DevOps, Infrastructure, Networking, and DBA teams with an emphasis on strong leadership, operational scale, and cost effectiveness. You will lead, mentor, and coach our globally diverse SRE group to ensure our technical operations are best in class.

In this role you will be responsible for all aspects of our production environment, services, and hosting infrastructure: cost, availability, performance, capacity, scalability, maintainability, redundancy, operations, efficiency, prioritization, growth, maturity, and especially execution.

The VP of SRE should lead by influence and example. You should be comfortable with and strong at both step-change and incremental improvements designed to bring efficiency, scale and predictability and know when step vs incremental change is necessary.

This is a highly collaborative position, naturally working closely with your teams, but also cross functionally with other senior leaders and key contributors including Program Managers, Product Managers/Owners, Designers, Agile Coaches, Support, Security and more. Tight communication and teamwork is essential for this role to identify and minimize dependencies, streamline business operations across the organization, and constantly improve the groups predictability.


In this highly collaborative role you will:

  • Build and lead the Global SRE organization within the Engineering organization to help scale the business and execute vision/priorities
  • Influence, champion, and drive process, tools and technology improvements to operate global large scale cloud based platform services
  • Drive the vision, strategy and migration to a cost effective, modern, and cohesive hosting model leveraging a hybrid of on-prem, cloud, containers and orchestration where best suited
  • Build modern automation-first CICD pipelines for rapid, automated and consistent application deployments with robust and unified tooling ecosystems
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across engineering, product, security, sales and marketing to form strategies, prioritize, execute and operationalize service life cycle management in production at scale
  • Build functional teams with effective processes structured for scale having expertise in Devops/IAC, Database Administration, Networking, Infrastructure Management, and Load Testing
  • Establish systems, processes and tooling for network and firewall management, automated patching, and certificate and credential management
  • Build and evolve monitoring and analytics systems to evaluate uptime/availability, app usage and performance metrics, transaction volume, and customer satisfaction
  • Ensure SDLC processes are in place to support rapid iteration and frequent deployments
  • In partnership with other engineering leaders champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics and processes that drive velocity, adaptability & revenue
  • Drive an excellent customer experience, continually raising the bar on functionality, usability, and simplicity
  • Nurture and grow a culture of ownership, accountability, empathy, customer obsession, people development, influence without authority values across the organization

Requirements

What we hope you will bring to the NMI team:

  • 10+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams
  • 5+ years experience partnering with product and program management teams
  • 7+ years of people management experience, managing multiple layers of engineers
  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps or related field monitoring reliability and scaling of new and current systems using automation best practices
  • 2+ years of experience managing activities across multiple geographically distributed teams
  • 3+ years of experience in cloud technologies at scale in a stable production environment
