The Role

AIF has been on a high-growth path, with the size of the organization more than doubling in the last 4 years. The program investments have grown more than 3 times. This new role has been created as part of AIF's business sustainability agenda of better stakeholder management and diversification of revenue that sustains and enables further growth in AIFs impact and influence.

Under the general guidance of the Chief Development Officer (CDO), this role is accountable for 3-4 areas of key strategic importance for the organization senior volunteer engagement, growth of the major gifts portfolio in the US, and better brand recognition and recall, for example, by convening high-quality knowledge events. This post is a visible, external-facing role that will entail independent representation of the organization externally to stakeholders and developing key strategic partnerships and initiatives. The position holder will contribute towards strategy development for the organization and will carry clear, pre-agreed annual development goals.

The delivery of strategic initiatives by the position holder will contribute towards creating and expanding a more effective AIF community that is committed, excited, and passionate about AIF's mission, impact, and influence. On a day-to-day basis, the achievements of the position holder will contribute directly to AIF's efforts on empowering underprivileged women, children, and youth in India and build a lasting bridge between the two largest democracies of the world.

Requirements

Supporter Relations (40%)

  • Responsible for keeping all of AIF's Charter volunteer bodies Founders Circle, National Leadership Council, Global Council of Advisors, Young Professionals, and Youth Ambassadors drafted and updated.
  • Implementing the new volunteer structure and ensuring that membership lists are finalized and posted on the website and in the annual report yearly.
  • Proactively contact supporters to assess supporter requirements, interpreting their needs and expectations. Promote and cross-sell different engagement offerings.
  • Create a volunteer service and engagement plan and provide outstanding service to enhance supporter experience, and strengthen the relationships that support revenue maximization;
  • Strategize on creating an Annual AIF Retreat (50-80 people) with the participation of volunteer bodies, staff leadership, donors, and external thought leaders/experts;
  • Set up and grow AIFs Corporate Council and nurture the relationship with USISPF and USIBC.
  • Work very closely with the Young professionals and support chapters to set up junior boards to create and steward AIFs next generation of supporters and leaders.

Development (50%)

  • Support and expand all fundraising initiatives by Young Professionals across chapters as well as the junior board campaigns across chapters.
  • Working with the Global Leadership Team, landscape mapping across the US. For example, tracking the diaspora and big moves with their philanthropy; identifying new opportunities, and sharing with relevant teams
  • Conduct prospect research, development, cultivation, and stewardship of a multi-million-dollar portfolio of UHNIs and corporations/foundations outside of California, NY Tristate, New England, and Chicago markets.
  • Support the CDO and CEO lead in organizing AIF's 25th Anniversary campaign and celebrations.
  • Support the circle of hope bodies across chapters to deepen and expand their influence.
  • Lead organizing virtual and in-person knowledge events throughout the year aimed at supporter engagement and brand building.
  • Work collaboratively with staff members across the organization to stay current on programs and to identify avenues of financial support for programs/projects.
  • Actively promote AIF at every opportunity and all channels and deepen supporter engagement.

Other (10%)

  • Project management of special projects as needed
  • Support CDO for major organization initiatives on and when basis (especially as it relates to engagement with members of the volunteer bodies)

Key Skills, Competencies, and Desired Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree preferably in Communications
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a similar role with a strong relationship management component. Demonstrated track record of raising funds from major gifts donors and institutional donors
  • Gets others to accept ideas by using convincing arguments, creates a win-win situation, and responds appropriately to key stakeholders
  • Growth mindset with a collaborative outlook; meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with board members and senior supporters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and ability to multitask; willingness to take on additional workload
  • Ability to work independently and lead projects; take the initiative, think strategically, and work creatively
  • High energy, proactive, positive, curious, and flexible
  • Sound reasoning, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential material and issues
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
