Founded in 1965 by brothers David Baker Sr. and Joseph Baker Jr, they strived to satisfy the need for diverse beverages to be available to consumers in Vermont. Started with only 3 employees in Rutland, hard work and great brands have allowed for growth that covers the whole State of Vermont with over 220 hard-working employees. We currently provide service to licensed accounts in the State of Vermont from our two in-state warehouses in Colchester and Rutland.

Position Overview

The Controller reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This position is responsible for the oversight of all accounting, finance, and reporting activities. The Controller will lead all day-to-day operations and supervise a team of three (3) team members including all responsibilities over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and inventory. Staff and management are in two locations within Vermont: Colchester and Rutland. This position has the responsibility of ensuring the company has the right systems in place and procedures to support the preparation of complete and accurate monthly financial statements for in house use, for review by financial institutions, consultants, and the outside accounting firm. This position will also work closely with the senior leadership regarding Human Resources and the consultants with information technology companies to ensure an accurate understanding of their systems to enhance proper use of all available systems.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Manage all accounts, ledgers and reporting systems ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage payroll, employee benefits and 401k.
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and actual expenditures. This will include supervising daily deposits, issuance of EFTs, and all banking activities. Cost supervision will include verifying accuracy of incoming invoices, comparison to product received and accuracy of invoicing pricing from suppliers to guarantee proper cost is maintained for inventory pricing within the company, as well as proper invoicing to our customer base.
  • Preparation and analysis of financial data and presenting financial reports in an accurate and timely manner. Analysis of trends concerning major accounts including cash management, inventory, property, plant and equipment, salaries and wages, cost of goods sold. Supervision of payroll reported items including insurance and employee benefit programs.
  • Jointly working with the current finance team to identify and clarify roles and responsibilities to reach optimal individual and organizational goals.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelors degree (BA or BS) or equivalent in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline
  • An advanced degree in Accounting, CPA, or CMA preferred
  • Must have proven demonstrated accounting/finance leadership
  • Personal qualities must include integrity, credibility, and alignment to the companys vision and mission
  • Should be a hands-on individual who will work closely with the finance team and senior management
  • Should have experience in coordinating year end activities both with the internal finance team and the outside consultants and accounting firm
  • Must have experience in all accounting functions relative to the general ledger of the company
  • Experience in dealing with regulatory agencies including state and federal taxing agencies
  • Proven experience with technology installation/migration of automated accounting system(s) while working with various vendors to accomplish this
  • Advance knowledge of accounting and reporting software
  • Willing to recruit and train additional staff within the finance team
  • Ability to delegate any necessary assignments
  • Effective communication skills, experience in communicating key data points to senior management and staff members
  • Must have the ability to travel to travel to Rutland, VT on occasion
