The Fund Development and Marketing Communications Manager will lead and coordinate the organization's fund development, fundraising/development strategies, and facilitate the marketing and communications strategies for the organization. This position will work collaboratively with senior leadership to develop funding prospects, perform grant writing and fundraising efforts to sustain financial stability while implementing strategies and initiatives to broaden the impact and influence of WRTP|BIG STEPs programs and partnerships for organizational messaging.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Grant Writing

  • Research prospective grant sources (private, corporate and government) compatible with WRTP|BIG STEPs mission, values, and programs in support of the agencys strategic and program goals
  • Coordinate the development of grant requests by establishing timelines that outline tasks, assignments, and deadlines; meet all deadlines; facilitate timely communications with program leadership
  • Draft and edit high quality, compelling LOIs, grant proposals, grant reports, and acknowledgement letters
  • Research and collect data and study findings to support grant proposals and reports. Special attention should be made in checking for completeness against grant instructions, spelling, grammar, and style; and to ensure compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Work with senior leadership on departmental budgets to meet grant sources budget requirements
  • Copy, collate, package, and submit final grant materials per grant instructions, and within funder deadlines
  • Respond to inquiries from funders and programs strategically and in a timely manner based on guidance from the Chief Executive Officer
  • Establish and maintain positive and professional working relationships with private grantors, corporate funders, and governmental agencies
  • Review, summarize, and track data on grant awards received in database and file formats
  • In collaboration with Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer develop an annual grants strategy
  • Collaborate with Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer to send benefactors newsletters and to promote on-site tours

Drive Development Opportunities

  • Develop and assist in executing the organizations annual development plan
  • Generate additional revenue by developing and implementing fundraising strategies; solicitations, sponsorships and events
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with funding organizations
  • Build partnership and design models for recommended service delivery and programs in alignment with funding opportunities
  • Create and execute a strategy for ongoing development from diverse sources
  • Oversee organization and execution of special organizational events
  • Develop and implement effective written and online fundraising appeals, leading to sustained and upgraded giving

Build and Grow Communication Capacity

  • Collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership to develop communications strategies that will broaden community awareness, partnership engagement, programmatic reach and deepen impact
  • Develop and refine the organizations "core" messages to ensure organizational consistency
  • Serve as executive editor for the organization's communication tools
  • Oversee organizational response to inquiries about the organization
  • Lead the development and dissemination of all organizational publications, which synthesize the latest research, data, and programmatic aspects of the work
  • Manage partnerships with press to ensure appropriate coverage of issues that are important to our organization and our sector

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Solid writing/editing and verbal communication skills
  • Prefer experience with proposal writing
  • Knowledge of grant research techniques helpful
  • Significant communications experience that includes a blend of advocacy and media relations
  • A strong track record of positioning an organization to achieve tangible outcomes in a competitive communications and funding environment
  • Ability to coach and support senior leaders as spokespersons

Media relations or other communications experience preferred

Extensive knowledge of federal and state grant landscape related to workforce development
