Job Description
ERCOT is seeking an experienced Platform Operations Architect with hands-on experience operating public and cloud environments. Architects, Designs, and Operates the cloud platforms for greenfield projects following ERCOT operating procedures and SDLC guidelines. Works closely with internal technical teams to design, prototype, develop and maintain complex ERCOT applications. Performs proof of concepts to evaluate and prove out Architecture non-functional requirements and options. Uses toolsets that adhere to the frameworks of the technical stack complying with the organization's standards.
JOB DUTIES
Develop and operate platform components in Public and Private cloud environments
Performs system integration and performance monitoring
Continuously automates processes during development and operations
Develops prototypes to prove out designs and delivery patterns
Fosters collaboration with cross-functional teams including Development, Operations, Compliance, Security, etc.
Understands and applies principles, theories and concepts related to the profession and ERCOT's culture.
Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
Provides mentoring and guidance to other team members

Focusses on forward looking changes to the application to simplify the Architecture and allow for easier maintenance
Persistence and willingness to challenge established norms and proactivity in identifying and eliminating roadblocks to agility
Conveys team goals effectively through strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to execute end-to-end testing for various non-functional requirements
Has the ability to resolve design and development issues in creative and effective ways
Researches, evaluates, and incorporates new technology and tools to enhance the product development and platform operations
Gives advice and recommendations to management for the Architecture options and transition plans
Advises and guides several key groups in the company to ensure quality product delivery
Expands technical proficiency in key technical areas
EXPERIENCE
Requires minimum 10 years related work experience in excess of degree requirements
Desired Skills
Required experience designing and operating solutions in AWS/Azure
Required experience building CI/CD pipelines and writing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for both private and public cloud deployments
Required experience delivering Architecture and designs for Software solutions including integration and communication perspectives
Preferred experience in software development and coding in various languages (Java, Python, SQL, etc.)
Preferred experience with programmatic interaction of various APIs
Preferred experience delivering solutions using modern delivery practices built including but not limited to Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Ansible
Required experience defining reference architecture and data flows
Required experience collaborating and coordinating with multiple departments, developers, stakeholders, partners, and external vendors
Requires strong communication skills and political savvy, being persuasive with various communities and ability to conceive and portray the big picture to others.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree: Computer Science or related field (Required)
or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required
Work Location:
This position can be performed remotely from anywhere in the US.
May be required to be on-site at the Taylor facilities occasionally based on the business needs and as determined by the Manager
