This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Full-time Director of Perkins Equity Project who will be all-in on our mission and who will directly plan, implement and evaluate the Coaching Single Parents in Career and Technical Education Programs to Success(link removed) This position is responsible for establishing the day-to-day operations/services of the Perkins Equity program to ensure single parents are retained and complete their Career and Technical Education credential.

*This is a grant funded position.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

  • Required: Bachelors degree
  • Preferred: Masters degree

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

  • Required: Minimum two (2) years of experience working with adult students.
  • Preferred: Three or more years of experience working with disadvantaged & at-risk families and students in college.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Comply with all Perkins Equity grant requirements, including grant budget management, supervision of grant personnel, grant reporting, and grant evaluation of student outcomes.
  • Recruit, select, and orient single parents in CTE programs to the grant program.
  • Develop, manage, and sustain needs assessment plan for single parents in CTE programs.
  • Implement success coach model to retain single parents.
  • Recruit, select and orient students to the program.
  • Promote Perkins Equity program initiatives via the website and Facebook pages, student radio station, direct e-mails, postings, networks and college communication strategies.
  • Track single parent progress to graduation.
  • Assist student parents to enroll in the Amarillo College Child Development Lab School and/or the Amarillo College Hagy Center.
  • Assess student parent needs, formulate, develop, and implement and evaluate program goals, policies, procedures and practices with input from the Childcare leadership, families, and campus community, consistent with college policy and procedures, principles of good management, and attention to the changing needs of college students.
  • Maintain records of single parent progress toward degree completion and other records required for grant reporting and meets all related compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Research, prepare, and present required grant reports and proposals for development of childcare tuition assistance.
  • Manage the grant budget.
  • Supervise program Success Coaches and Data Management Specialist.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to deal with people in a professional manner.
  • Communicate effectively both written and verbally.
  • Commitment to create and maintain a warm and welcoming office and campus environment.
  • Commitment to discretion and confidentiality concerning sensitive information at all times.
  • Knowledge of educational advising strategies, learning styles, and non-cognitive behaviors that lead to success for Perkins Equity eligible students.
  • Knowledge of academic advising, career, financial aid, economic literacy activities, and related services for Perkins Equity eligible students.
  • Experience advising and assisting Perkins Equity eligible students with the transfer, college admissions and financial aid process.
  • Ability to effectively maintain a caseload of participants and provide them with documented services and activities.
  • Knowledge of Texas state public assistance systems, including the Department of Transitional Assistance, Department of Early Education and Care, subsidized housing, early intervention and public-school special education services.
  • Knowledge of barriers to postsecondary education faced by low-income, first-generation, and/or Perkins Equity eligible college students.
  • Understands responsibilities with respect to Title IX, Clery and other compliance requirements.

Salary: Amarillo College - Salary Schedules((link removed), Pay grade 14 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Work Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including evening and or weekend hours if needed.

Work Environment: This position works in a professional environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, and filing cabinets.

Travel Expectations: Any travel essential for this position requires the employee to adhere to the Amarillo College Travel Policy as written.
