Position Summary

As the Director of YWCA World Fellow, you will lead the development and execution of the World YWCA Community of Practice strategy, enabling effective engagement of the YWCA movement, and fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing across the global network. Your accountabilities include building a vibrant community of YWCA World Fellows, developing and managing online platforms for collaboration, building partnerships with external organizations, representing the World YWCA at events and forums, developing and implementing the World YWCA Community of Practice strategy, monitoring and evaluating its effectiveness, managing the budget, providing leadership and guidance, ensuring alignment with policies and procedures, and promoting a culture of learning and collaboration.

Accountabilities

Community Building and Engagement

  • Develop and implement strategies to foster a vibrant and engaged global community of YWCA World Fellows.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among YWCA World Fellows, including organizing regular virtual and in-person gatherings, webinars, and other events.
  • Develop and manage online platforms and tools to support knowledge sharing and collaboration among YWCA World Fellows.

Partnerships and External Engagement

  • Identify and build partnerships with external organizations to expand the reach and impact of the World YWCA Community of Practice.
  • Represent the World YWCA in external forums and events related to women's empowerment, gender and racial justice, and youth leadership.
  • Develop and manage relationships with funders and donors to secure resources for the World YWCA Community of Practice.

Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Develop and implement the World YWCA Community of Practice strategy, in alignment with the YWCA's strategic priorities and the World YWCA's vision and mission.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the World YWCA Community of Practice strategy, and make adjustments as needed.
  • Develop and manage the Community of Practice budget, ensuring that resources are used effectively and efficiently.

Leadership and Management

  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff, volunteers, and stakeholders involved in the World YWCA Community of Practice.
  • Ensure that the World YWCA Community of Practice is aligned with the YWCA's policies and procedures, and that all activities are conducted in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Foster a culture of learning, innovation, and collaboration within the World YWCA Community of Practice.

Requirements

You will be successful in this role if you possess the following experience and core competencies

  • Experiences
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience working in the international development sector, with a focus on women's empowerment, gender and racial justice, and youth leadership.
    • Experience in managing and leading teams, including remote teams.
    • Proven experience in developing and implementing community building and engagement strategies.
    • Experience in managing partnerships with external organizations.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Experience in fundraising and resource mobilization.
  • Values and Proficiencies
    • Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including active listening and effective presentation skills.
    • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Proven ability to manage complex projects and deliver results on time and within budget.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
    • Proficiency in English, with fluency in other languages desirable.

  • YWCA USA is a remote first office environment; you will collaborate with colleagues who are based across the United States. You should be prepared to either work from home or a location of your choosing.
  • Occasional travel for meetings, events, or site visits may be required (dependent on the nature of the position and organization).
  • Ability to attend events.
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday during core hours and occasionally on nights and weekends as needed.
  • The role may require long periods of sitting and using a computer and may also involve some light physical tasks, such as printing, filing, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and via phone.
  • This role is required to provide proof of COVID vaccination.

Compensation and Benefits

In order to counter pay inequality and uphold internal parity, salaries are non-negotiable for new and current employees. YWCA USA salary bands for a given staff level are benchmarked to the 75th percentile for our sector, and all new employees are paid at the entry point of those bands. Employees then have the opportunity to progress through current salary bands through annual cost of living increases and performance-based pay increases, and into new salary bands through promotions.
