About Academy of Visual and Performing Arts

Academy of Visual and Performing Arts is a 6-12th grade, tuition-free public charter school for students in Fort Worth, Texas. Our mission is to provide a safe, challenging learning environment that cultivates our students academic and artistic excellence. We exist to ensure that all students are provided with equitable opportunities to Learn In The Arts and Learn Through The Arts.

Start Date: July 10, 2023

Type: Full-time position. Work hours are generally 7:30 am - 4:45 pm. Flexibility in the work schedule is expected due to the nature of working in a start-up environment. Candidates should have the flexibility to travel and work in the evenings and on weekends. The schedule will be adjusted to accommodate after-hours assignments, as needed.

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Superintendent/Principal, the Assistant Principal - Culture (APC) is a school-based leadership role that provides leadership regarding evidence-based strategies for the school culture and well-being programming - including mindfulness practices, community building, emotional intelligence, executive function training, student management, restorative practices, and positive behavior intervention processes. Responsibilities include:

School Culture Leadership

  • Implement, coordinate, and monitor the AVPA's curriculum for emotional intelligence, executive function training, mindfulness exercises, and community-building structures.
  • Provide leadership on matters relating to attendance, school culture, and student management, looking for trends in order to assist in managing these issues in a proactive manner.

Professional Development

  • Provide professional development and professional learning to staff regarding the implementation of evidence-based strategies for physical, psychological, social, and economic well-being and school culture programs and activities.

Human Resource Administration, Compliance, and Risk Management

  • Provide leadership and management to the following staff to achieve the instructional and operational proficiency of the campus: counselor, licensed social worker, elective teachers, including physical education, general paraprofessional, substitute teachers, and volunteers.
  • Oversee employee performance, and conduct observations and feedback sessions, and evaluative conferences

Organizational Leadership

  • Assist in the planning of daily school activities by participating in the development of master schedules, teacher assignments, conservatory schedules, and extracurricular activity schedules.

Communication

  • Provide for two-way communication with the principal, staff, students, parents, and community.
  • Communicate in a way that fosters collegiality and team building among staff members.
  • Ensure the effective and quick resolution of concerns, grievances, and conflicts.

Student Performance Management

  • Provide leadership and coordination to campus personnel related to the multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) team, student success team (SST), ARD and LPAC committees, and the other academic teams as assigned.
  • Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance, oversee attendance initiatives, provide leadership to staff on the improvement of attendance, and work with the Director of Operations and PEIMS/Registrar on follow-up investigations.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

First and foremost, the Assistant Principal - Culture must have an unwavering commitment to the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts mission and a willingness to go above and beyond to meet the needs of AVPA students, families, and staff. Additionally, for this position, were looking for candidates that possess a combination of the following skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree in Educational Leadership preferred
  • Principal certification preferred; Certified T-TESS appraiser, preferred
  • Three (3) years of teaching experience
  • Experience implementing and monitoring emotional intelligence, social-emotional learning, PBIS, restorative practices initiatives, programs, and activities
  • Results-proven track record of exceeding goals; evidence of the ability to consistently make good decisions through a combination of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment; high level of business acumen and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong project and time management skills; ability to effectively backward plan, juggle multiple priorities with great attention to, detail, and deliver consistent and timely results
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and enthusiastic communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
  • Ability to lead, influence, and hold others accountable to high standards of organizational excellence
  • Strong learning orientation and desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • Successful criminal background check results required

Academy of Visual and Performing Arts compensation philosophy is to pay competitively for the PK-12 charter market to ensure equity across our institution. The salary for this role is $72,500-$75,000 annually. AVPA is committed to internal pay equity throughout our organization.
