Were looking for a proactive Food Scientist with 1+ year of in-work experience to join our growing Product team. This person will work closely with our Product Development Manager to conduct product development lab work, prepare and submit samples for analytical and sensory evaluation, and assist with product cutting, plant trials, and testing.

This is a full time, in-person/hybrid role (3 days in office p/w on average) based in Tribeca, NYC.

As Associate Food Scientist, you'll:

  • Under direction, independently conduct and document product development lab work, including but not limited to development of bench top prototypes, implementation and maintenance of shelf-life testing, and supporting pilot plant/commercial scale-up trials
  • Accurately prepare laboratory samples and submit samples for analytical and sensory evaluation as needed
    • Conduct analytical testing (Moisture, aW, Brix, etc) as needed
  • Work with the Product Development Manager to create and ensure accuracy of product specification documents
  • Assist team with product cutting, plant trials, and testing as needed
  • Complete documentation of work in laboratory notebooks in a timely and accurate manner
  • Support with consumer research and experimental design to project objectives
  • Maintain and ensure accuracy of internal systems such as Genesis, Master BOMs, etc

Requirements

  • B.S. in Food Science, Food Engineering, or related discipline
  • 1 year of relevant work or intern experience preferred
  • Ability to analyze and communicate implications of experimental results
  • Strong commitment to working safely and maintaining a safe work environment
  • Intellectual curiosity and ability to think critically & analytically
  • Strong communication and presentation skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to self-initiate and manage multiple project tasks independently to meet business objectives and to support the individuals of the workgroup
  • Proven time management and collaboration capabilities
  • Computer Skills: Google Docs (Sheets, Forms, Docs, etc)
  • Occasional flexibility in working hours to setup and complete focus groups/consumer testing, or plant trials that may extend past typical working hours
  • Willing to travel 10-15%

Physical Requirements:

  • Will be exposed to potential food allergens, including but not limited to - Milk, Peanuts, Almonds/Tree Nuts
  • Required to handle and evaluate all types of foods and ingredients derived from plants, animals and synthetically manufactured
  • Work in and around cramped/confined spaces
  • Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders
  • Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended work days to include: loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, and slippery conditions.
  • Use of tools, equipment, and machinery
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs
  • Driving a rental vehicle as needed (valid Drivers License)

Magic Spoon intends to offer competitive base pay within the stated range, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications. To further compensate and recognize our employees for their work, our total compensation package includes equity and a robust benefits package. The anticipated annual base salary range for this role is $65,000 - $80,000.
