Indian Creek School is an independent, co-ed day school in which 570 students age 3 to Grade 12 partner with innovative teachers in an outstanding educational program. This position will be a member of a four person Business Office that will work amongst the Director of Finance, Financial Accounts Manager, and the Chief of Staff. This position is (link removed) exempt, 12-month staff position who reports to the Director of Finance. The option of a hybrid/remote work would be available after initial training period.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the accounting operations of the Schools; overseeing all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring accuracy and full compliance with appropriate GAAP standards
  • Participates in the preparation and management of the annual budget
  • Advises administrators of budget account balances; resolves problems and discrepancies; and makes revisions as necessary, in compliance with established policies and procedures
  • Oversee monthly and quarterly reconciliations of the schools financial statements; prepare investment account reconciliations
  • Assist in managing the daily operations of the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable process
  • Assist in the preparation required for the annual audit and preparation for required tax filings
  • Deal with sensitive personal and business information in an environment that demands absolute and complete confidentiality
  • Assist Director of Finance and other members of school administration with a variety of complex projects
  • Responsible for reconciling purchases for entire school
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements: The Controller should demonstrate proven abilities to multi-task, see complex projects through to completion, and a willingness, if necessary, to undertake the most basic tasks to be of service to the school, its employees and students. The Controller must be able to work collaboratively and harmoniously with peers in an educational setting; to be flexible in adapting to growth and change; to be constantly and independently pursuing improvements in business and operational efficiencies and must maintain a positive attitude and sense of humor. The Controller must be able to effectively represent the interests of the school to outside vendors and constituents in an aggressive but professional manner and must be comfortable with and able to use (or quickly learn to use) a wide range of technology, database and computer applications to accomplish important tasks. Systems thinking, detail orientation and a high standard for quality and error-free work is a must. Federal and State background clearance is required for this position, along with MSDE Employment History Review compliance.

Specific Knowledge and Skills:

  • Attention to detail and careful proofing of own work and that of others
  • Ability to learn quickly and be resourceful in problem solving
  • Ability to work independently and see tasks through to completion
  • Ability to work with little or no secretarial support
  • Ability use database applications to organize and manage complex datasets
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office applications. Advanced knowledge of Excel (for budgeting and tracking) required. Familiarity with Blackbaud, learning management platforms, website and phone system interfaces helpful but not required.
  • Ability to perform accounting and financial reporting tasks.
  • Ability to quickly master new computer application skills and comfort with a wide range of web-based applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in a variety of settings and with a wide range of people. Ability to interact and collaborate with a wide range of personalities and internal and external customers
  • Ability to write and present information in a clear, professional and concise manner.

Working Conditions.

Environment:

  • Office environment with no secretarial/administrative support.
  • School buildings and grounds with variable temperature and noise levels.

Physical Demands:

  • Operate office equipment extensive keyboarding.
  • Read handwritten documents and other records or reports.
  • Exchange information in person, via electronic mail or on the telephone.
  • Sitting and using a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Some light lifting, carrying, bending.

Working Relationships:

Ability to maintain confidential and positive working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, parents, students, school and community organizations, vendors, and the general public.

Applicant Requirements(link removed) Bachelors degree and more than 7 years-experience in business operations or management, preferably in a school environment, required. CPA preferred but not required. Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, to work independently without administrative support, excellent communications skills (written and oral) and strong interpersonal skills required. Business writing and presentation sample required. IT training, coursework or experience preferred.
