Environmental Stream Scientist Location: US-PA-Eighty Four Email this job to a friend

This position is location in Eighty-Four, PA and reports to the Stream Supervisor. The purpose of the Environmental Stream Scientist - Tier I position is to properly collect and accurately document surface waters for quality, quantity and subsidence information. Pay Type: Salary ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Operate company vehicles from various job sites and conduct daily vehicle inspections
- Proper documentation of field sampling and inspection results through written log and QA/QC forms and checks
- Communicates water quality, sampling and scheduling problems to supervisor in oral and written forms
- Conduct stream delineations and wetland delineations
- Benthic collection
- Longitudinal stream profiling
- Data analysis
- Rapid bio assessment
- Mitigation oversite
- Respects landowners property, never to harm or damage
Experience - Excellent leadership, organizational, and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills; communicates with landowners, staff regarding issues with landowners and changes in monitoring area
- Basic computer skills
Requirements - Must be at least 18 years old
- High School Diploma or GED, preferred
- Bachelors degree in Environmental Sciences (or equivalent), preferred
- Reliable transportation
- Regular and punctual attendance
- Effective communication is required
- Must have knowledge to troubleshoot monitoring and sampling equipment
- Knowledgeable on use and maintenance of monitoring and sampling equipment
- Ability to understand and use permit maps for identification of sampling sites
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding the stream monitoring protocol
- Capable of making field decisions for sampling of points, location of sample, etc.
- Possessing skills to accurately complete field reporting and pictorial documentations
- Possessing initiative to follow through, overcome obstacles, and meet objectives
- Familiar with the monitoring area, and observant of any changes
- Maintains a satisfactory safety record
- Arrives at each site with necessary equipment to perform assigned tasks
- Must be able to work safely and effectively as part of a team or independently
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), required
- Must be able to successfully pass a post offer drug test and background check
- Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship
JOB SCHEDULE AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Must be able to work overtime, weekends and holidays as needed or as schedule requires (subject to applicants religious practices)
- Must be able to work rotating shifts (subject to the applicants religious practices)
- Ability/willingness to work any shift assigned
- Traverse uneven, rocky, wet, slippery, muddy terrain (frozen, icy surfaces in winter)
- Climb on hillsides, in wooded areas and on embankment side slopes
- Carry sampling and other monitoring equipment
- Use and carry mechanical brushing clearing device (chainsaws, weed eaters)
- Ability to lift floor-to-waist and waist-to-overhead
- Ability to push/pull as needed
- Standing, bending, step climbing, crawling and working overhead
- Ability to perform heavy labor and lift 50+ pounds as needed
